MG TD TF 1500 - Inlet Valve Extra Spring
| Hi Stripping the head on my early XPAG engine, when I pulled out the inlet valve there was an extra spring arrangement below the valve guide. Any ideas? I don't see it on any diagrams or listed on any suppliers websites. Thanks Barry

Hi Steve On all the inlet valves, sat on the valve head as in the picture. The topside was normal two springs etc. Barry

The only time I have seen a spring there is when it was forgotten after using it to lift the valve off the seat while grinding in.(pre-war motorcycle engine with screwdriver slot to grind in) Ray TF 2884

Maybe to add a dampening effect or to change the valve float frequency ? Laurent.

It may be an ill-advised device to retain an oil seal on the intake valve stem?
J Stone
Yeah looks like someone's attempt to fit some sort of valve stem seal on the bottom side Put him in the bin--he isn't your friend and also it would be fighting against the strength of the valve springs weakening their effectiveness

Hi Thanks for all your comments, I will be putting them all in the bin. William I think you are right there was a hint of an old seal on two of the springs. thanks Barry
