MG TD TF 1500 - Inskip Dealer List

I am looking for a list of dealers that fell under the J.S. Inskip importer list in the early 1950's (up until 1955). I have a list from Hambro and Arnolt, but not Inskip.

I have ads for Inskip stating they have over a hundred dealers but no listing of names and addresses like I have for British Motor Distributors, Hambro and Arnolt.

Anyone have any scanned ads or other documentation that they can share which lists the Inskip dealer names and addresses?
Chris Couper

Chris would it be possible to get a copy of the dealer lists you do have?

I have this web site with all North American dealers in 1971.

Wish they had one from the early to mid sixties. We had one here in Grand Junction Colorado at the time. Moss Motorama believe it or not. It was gone by the late 60's.

Dave: I saw that list but the 1970 dealer network was completely different than what occurred in the 1950's. In the mid 60's BMC took on import responsibility and basically the dealerships too. All the mom and pops went away along with importers such as Inskip, Gough and Arnolt.

In the 1950's all you needed to be an MG dealer was a sign on the street. (in some cases even that was an option). I think one reason BMC changed it all was for quality control issues, accountability and to make the cars more profitable. I saw one report that the imports actually took 33% of the profits of the cars in the 50's so you could see why BMC and later BE wanted them out of the loop.

Who is BE Chris?

Should have been BL; British Leland. Sorry for the miss type.

My first memory of a MG dealer was about 1953, it was an Amaco gasoline store in White Plains NY!
1 car in the front office!
Seacord brothers was a dealer in New Rochelle NY
for AH, Hillman, MG perhaps others from 1951 or so until about 1972
Len Fanelli

Len: I think you described most of them. My car was bought from exactly the same place but it was in California :-)

Here's one for you. Visit it in Google Streetview

3200 W Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California 90006

This was Al Moss's first location that he shared with Jack Gilchrist when he was selling Allards. It was white then but its still basically the same today.

Wander around a bit and you will see its the same place.

Chris Couper: I think I have what you are looking for. It is a small booklet of all the Hambro Trading Co of America dealers published January 1953. It is 31 pages in small 4.25 X 6 inch format. The dealers are listed by state including Canada. It does not lend itself to photocopying due to the number of pages and small format but if Inskip dealers were limited to just a few states that might be possible. Advise me off line at:

John: email sent. Thanks

Early indication is that I struck gold with John Quilter. Thanks all for the response.
