MG TD TF 1500 - Interior air vent

Living in Florida, driving in summer is a challenge due to heat. Ok at 55 but brutal in town. One of my issues is engine heat under the dash. Even at highway speed it can get hot. Many cars of the older vintage, 1950 TD here) had an air vent on the hood area. Wondered if anyone has a hack for this. Looked in archives and found nothing but it is difficult to search there. Air flow would help with steam in rain storm also.

Short of cutting holes somewhere, no way to vent. You could put Dynamat or something on the toe board, tranny tunnel, etc that would help with radiant heating. See this: https://www.quietride.com/catalogpdfs/mg_cars_catalog.pdf
I used a kit from them on my 280z that worked well. If the link doesn’t work just google quiet ride. I just don’t drive my TD much in the summer here in central Florida. George

I saw an idea at a GOF a number of years ago you can try and it wouldn't cost much to test it out. Just buy some clothes dryer flex hose and fix an open end on the passenger side windshield frame with some clothes pins and put the other end in the floor. When you are moving the outside air is forced into the cabin pushing out the standing air.

Great idea, never thought of that. What about using a NACA duct like on stock car side windows? You could make a clip on bracket for it and then run a hose. They have a couple of Amazon.

I was going to install a bilge boat blower fan under the dash with a switch to use when needed. Around $25.00 from Amazon. This could also be used with the dryer vent idea mentioned above to get lots of fresh air at low speeds. My TF is gone now but always thought the idea had merit

I made a scoop in fiber glass in front of the cross member. Goal was to cool the carbs with fresh air (it works). But it happen that there is also an improvement for the driver's legs(RHD).

My wife hates this photo. That was GOF Central, Akron, Ohio 2017. It was hot and with the rain, hardtop with side curtains were called for. Not only did we need the vent for air circulation, I had to defog the windscreen with it.

Thanks for input. I thought about running a hose from front of crossmember like mentioned and doing a cut in firewall to cool. Would need a way to block in cool weather,

Gary,
In winter period, I just force a rag in the scoop.
And it remains during all cold months.

Back in the 70's we had a car in our club that someone had put round pop up air vents from a boat in the cowl in front of the wind shield. Of course this same car had chrome steel wheels the chrome shop drilled out the welds to do the chrome and put them back together with sheet metal screws, the pressure from the tubes were what was holding the screws in place. they found that out after driving highway 1 from LA to Monteray. It wasn't steering well and they found out that one of the three bolts steering column to rack was there.
