MG TD TF 1500 - Interior front quarter panel

I looked in the archives, but no luck. What is the method to bend the upholstered panel around the scuttle shake bar? I remember it was discussed before, but I can't find the article in the archives. Any help would be deeply appreciated. PJ

I can't identify the archive data but I dampened the backside of the panels in the area to be molded and left them overnight covered with wet rags. They dried slightly the next day and were easy to shape around the bar to the desired appearance. I secured them in place with the appropriate screws and they eventually dried out with no side effects.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Seeing the article I now remember how it was done. Thanks for the illustrations Graeme! I have access to a sheet metal brake also. PJ

I did not realize the TF panels were so pronounced around the stiffer tube.

TD's are much more graceful :-)

Paul,
I guess there's two ways to do the front kick panel:
1. Form a single semicircular bend around the frame tube as Jim Merz did, and
2. Form the bend as in no.1,then form two straight bends into the cardboard with a brake.

The second method will give you a bit more foot room. That's probably the way I'll go, but first need to find someone with a brake. Has anyone tried the hand-bending method? Also, I hope John Crawley's measurements are accurate. There's only one try to get it right.

thanks,

Here is a pic of my TF's kick panels. I think the curve looks the same as your TD photo.
I think mine looks graceful. I see I need to replace the chrome wood screws.

Here is my original. The glue is letting go on some of the bends.

Tom: Sorry for the confusion. That was TF kick panel. Here is the elegant TD one :-)
