MG TD TF 1500 - Interior panel seam

My interior kit has brought up another question.

The kit has hidem on the back panel that is long enough to go to the door latch. The A pillar panel also has hidem sewn on it, which would negate the need for the longer hidem from the back panel.

In looking at Chris Coopers Original TD pictures, I found a TDs with a seam in the hidem at the junction of the lower door panel and the A pillar panel (this could be just a break in the hidem). I also found a picture without a seam in the hidum.

Here are the two pictures I found on Chris's web page.

Here are a couple of pictures of my car that show seams in the hidem, but judging from the angle of the cut ends at the right door, it appears that maybe the reason there is a seam is that the hidem was cut at some time in the past to allow easier removal of the panels.

TD1250 had the hidem sewn as one piece joining the panels.

La Verne: Can you share a picture of the rear panel joint? Was that also the same piece without a seam too? This is a difficult place to get a picture and the one I have shows a cut, but it could have been done for the reason Joe mentioned above.

My upholster, who was/is considered the best, did it as one piece from the latch to the side curtain box.

I am afraid I do not have a better picture Chris, but I know that it was not sewn from one panel to the next at that point. I am also reasonably certain that none of the right side panels had ever been removed from the car to this point.

LaVerne: Just to be clear. You think that there WAS a break in the hidem between the bottom and rear panel?
Christopher Couper

Yes, that is correct Chris.
L E D LaVerne

Thank you. I will continue to try to find evidence of a car with a continuous piece of hidem but the limited pictures I have today show a discontinuity there.
Christopher Couper

I still have the original panels out in the shop if you want pictures.

LaVerne: When you get a chance I would love to have them to post. Take your time.
