MG TD TF 1500 - Jerking

Took the TF out for some sunshine this morning first time for a few weeks then it ran faultless but today at light pedal pressure (low speed) it started jerking, once I gave it more throttle the jerking stopped.
Any clues

Thanks

Pulling air instead of gas???? Running lean, overcome when running fast? Look for loose shafts in the carb bodies or loose/ bad gaskets. Spray carb cleaner, etc., on them while running. A change in revs will tell the tale.

Hi George,

My TF 1250 did the same thing on our annual New Year's Day run. I put some fresh gas in it - high octane - and the jerking went away after about a mile.

I had this happen when oil level in the dashpots was low.

I had this happen on new years day as well. But it wasn't the fault of the car.

Thanks for the input, changed the plugs and all is now good,

Weak distributor springs and you just happened to be at the rpm where the timing would vary.

New plugs will often seem to fix things when a condenser is on its way out. Part of a condenser's job it to fire the plugs efficiently, so the plugs stay clean.

Thanks for the reply's but I do hope the last two ideas are way off , my distributor has just been to Jeff for a total rebuild and setting etc.
I will concede though that changing the plus may not be an end to the problem, I have been fiddling with the carbies , even though they were totally overhauled just before I got the car I don't think they are adjusted correctly and I am finding it hard to do that.
Next weekend I will run it again and see how it goes.

Up date: went for another run with new plugs, jerking started again but not so bad,my next thought was that it may be running a bit lean turned it back a bit and presto running beautiful again, this is my fault I play with the carby adjustment and not really know what I am doing I stuff it up.
