MG TD TF 1500 - LBC vs Moss
I realize that we save money when we order from LBC. My question, is there a difference in time as to when we will receive our parts? |
david kirkpatrick |
Yes - LBC is faster. Cheers - Dave |

I suppose its where you live. I can get parts from Moss in two days depending on when I call. I live in the same state. |
Christopher Couper |
Not sure David, But Jeff order form Moss and then sends to you. So there could be a few days delay. If it is not in his stock. But the discount should help with that. :) Rod |

Good question. Time is just as important as money but the real question for me is quality. I'd gladly pay more for stuff that actually does what it's supposed to! I have a list of about 20 items from one of those companies that I can't use or even give away! Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Definitely depends on where you live. I can order at 3PM and have my parts the next day from Moss. LBC would take at least two days. |

3 days to me from LBC,4 from Moss! Were just one step above Pony Express! Grin PJ |

Biggest difference for me has been that Jeff has emailed me back after placing an order telling me I may not be happy with the quality on several items. He has even informed me "where" to get something I would be happier with. Mr. Zorn's service is second to none...I would buy from him even if the cost was more. |

I've had good experiences with both but enjoy Jeff's personal touch. Regarding the quality of the parts, I suppose, unless you are willing to pay for custom fabrication, we're just danged lucky to still be able to get parts for 60+ year old cars. My last order from Jeff took 10 days so I guess he had to order some of the stuff from Moss but that gave me time to get everything ready for the repair. Other orders have arrived in as few as 3 days. Jud |

I like dealing with a mom and pop organization with a more personal touch as LBC is. And, you get some cookies with your order! Grin. PJ |

Moss doesn't send Scottish short-bread cookies! |

I have been told these guys are good but have no experience with them. http://scarboroughfaire.4mg.com/ |

Another distinct advantage of Jeff's operation is the choices of shipping methods. IMHO, Moss' shipping charges are atrocious. Bud |

Jeff takes longer for me. Sometimes it is worth the extra discount and the wait, but sometimes it isn't. If I have a small order I'll go directly to Moss. If you are in a hurry, Jeff will arrange to have the order shipped drop shipped from Moss with his prices. You can get overnight service this way. No shortbread, though, and Jeff doesn't get the opportunity to review the product to make sure you got the right stuff. |

Scarboroughfaire is mostly for A and B's. Moss will overnite stuff if you really need it and are great that way. At many a GOF someone has had a breakdown and Moss gets the part there overnite. That said, I have ordered from Jeff and he has been at GOF centrals and is a good guy and does his best for his customers. Not a perfect world but both are good to deal with. |

Moss delivered fast. Scenario. Friday afternoon about 3 PM We were on way from Florida to a GOF in Georgia. About three miles from hotel my 1954 TF refused to go after the light had turned green. Towed to hotel and found left rear axle broken. Called Moss and they had a new axle in my hand early the next morning.By 11 AM the axle was back in after dismantling half the differential to remove broken stub and the balance of the GOF went well.Only problem was that it was a wire wheeled car and had to go and find press to change bearing. This was all completed in the hotel parking lot. MG's do not leak oil but mark their territory. Sandy |

My wife makes me order from Jeff because he puts a tin of Walker's shortbread cookies in every shipment. But I would buy from him anyway because of the service he provides. |

I appreciate all the comments. I placed my order Monday September 29 with LBC and just received a shipping notification today Friday October 3. I live near Houston and will let ya'll know when package arrives. I have ordered from both Moss and LBC many times during the last 15+ years with no complaints but just curious as to shipping times and differences between the two. Dave |

Jim has always offered me wonderful service - indeed, come to think of it, it's been flawless. Advice, prompt shipping, easy return policy... it's all been excellent. Moss is also good, but as noted by others there's a lack of 'personal service' involved. Now... don't even *ASK* me about Victoria British. I'll likely get myself into legal trouble by what I might say, not to mention the all ears and sensibilities I'd offend with the language I'd undoubtedly use. I'll simply say my overall reaction to VB is "Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr". |

don't forget abingdon spares..they are great..i use LBC and abingdon..many times abingdon sources from other suppliers or their own extensive inventory. regards, tom |

To be fair, I think Moss' lack of personal touch compared with LBCC is the fact that they move a huge volume of orders through per day. There is no way Jeff could give his personal service with such numbers moving through the office. |
