MG TD TF 1500 - Leather Cleaner/conditioner and.....

Hi all,

I'm back again. Work is constant but have a slight break in the action to work on interior. I believe the seats are not original covering and from what I am told are about 25 years old. They are not cracked, or ripped but have a slight mildew and some dirt.

What is the best to clean them with and then what is the best to condition them with.

I've read that Murphy's oil soap in a dilute solution (not sure what %) will work best to clean. Makes sense.

What to condition with after that is where I am not sure.

The seats are a very light tan/beige.

The and...part is mouse pee. I'm working on potty training them and it's not going too well. I've asked for them to go before we leave the garage but it seems they don't listen too well and the little buggers have peed all over the carpets and into the wood. What is best to clean carpets and then remove the smell.

Thanks,
Vince

To remove the smell try "Nature's Miracle" sold at pet stores- it neutralizes the smell without masking it with a smell of it's own.

You won't find a better product than this:

I used this system on leather seats which had been sitting in the weather for 25 years. It restored the suppleness and brought back the color. Before the treatment the leather was rock hard and faded. Afterward they look brand new. Highly recommended.

I have had very good luck with Glyptone leather products and it leaves a very nice "new shoes" aroma afterward.

On saddles and other tack we always used olive oil, worked better than any of the commercial products we tried. Rub it in gradually, a little at a time. You can even use your bare hands and get into the harder to get at spots. Other vegetable oil are supposed to work OK as well.
Of course this will not restore colour where there is no dye left.

The best stuff to remove urine or skunk.

Inexpensive, and works instantly.

1 qt of 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon of dish soap (dawn/ivory liquid)

Vince, This is what I've always used. After cleaning, I use their leather conditioner. Our T Bird seats were always soft and looked very nice. The MGB has leather seats and gets the same treatment. The TF will get it also. PJ

I've used them all and Lew has it right, Leatherique. Wife's '94 Jag Vanden Plas leather is still as new, maybe even softer. I do the oil treatment first letting it set for an hour or so then use their cleaner to wet it down before wiping it all off. Backwards from their instructions but works well for me. I do it once a year before we go to WA for the summer ( it stays in AZ). Some of my axle customers have seen it. Very nice car that has a few trophies from shows.

They cleaned up really well with Murphy's but I need to condition. There are some stains that look unrelated to the mildew. Not horrible and I'll give them another cleaning before I condition.

Oh and some of the carpets might need replacing but I've managed to get most of the smell out. The wood floors and parcell shelf will need some work. I managed to clean and paint one and it does not smell
