MG TD TF 1500 - LED Instrument Lights
Has anyone installed LED instrument bulbs on a TF? I am considering doing such but I wonder if the very expensive bulbs are worth the time and expense. Thanks much for your thoughts. Larry

I’m a fan of LEDs in general but you would have to ask yourself how often you drive at night and if your charging system is being severely tested by 3 x 2.2W bulbs. I installed LED strip lights in the instruments on my Stag and it is quite novel to be able to change the colour of the instrument panel - but the novelty wore off. Chris

Hello Larry, I bought some off ebay. I put them in the TD, it's the first time I've been able to see the gauges at night. I love it. Note since the TD has a green strip of plastic to filter the light I bought the green led's for it. I got white led's for the Y. Butch

I've had the same results as Butch. I'm using white LEDs. Bud

Thank y'all for your thoughts and suggestions. The TF is in great shape and I think I am fighting the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." I figured there isn't anything left to do on the car except add LED instrument lights. I suppose, after finishing the oil/oel change and tuning the car I will just cover it for the winter. Thanks again.

Question: can you dim the LED lights? Thanks, Jim

The dimmer control on my TD works fine with the LEDs. Much more usable range than with the tungsten. Bud

Good to know. Thank you Bud. Jim
