MG TD TF 1500 - LED Stop Light - not really compatibel

I'd bought LED (positiv ground) for the stop lights from Abingdon Spares. There is a notice that the flasher relay must be changed if all lights are LED. So I'd thought I could ignore.

After swaping old against new the direction light didn't work. To get it run I'd bought 2 Restistors 8,2 Ohm /25 Watt. Each Resistor is now parallel with the LED and everything is fine.

Addendum

Not everything was fine. When engine was idle the voltage dropped and the flasher relay was supplied with minor current.

With 6,8 Ohm it is perfect.

I had concerted my car to Negative ground so I was able to get the LEDS in UK for a half the Moss Motors price, added a "Electronic" flasher relay and all was well.

The additional brightness is worth the effort.

I am in the process of gathering all the bits to insert LED panels into the reflectors at the top on the tub by the fuel tank.

I will connect that to the brake light terminal on the brake/flasher control box to give me high level brake lights.

I swopped my brake lights to LEDs and added a high level LED brake light to the luggage rack. No issues of any concern other than I notice a faint glimmer to the front sidelights when the brake lights are illuminated. Can be safely ignored though. As the indicators are 21W they are bright enough and don't need LEDs.

Hi Peter,
I don't think my 54 TF came with reflectors (I haven't seen any in the boxes of bits that currently constitute my 'car') and was thinking of buying a set to turn them into indicators. Then adding a high level brake light like Dave's. Have you found some lenses that suit the rubber mountings or just flat LED panels.
Just another thought, would it look too silly to have two sets of reflector mounts each side, one for indicators one for reflectors?
I checked the Aussie lighting requirements and reflectors are required on new vehicles, still not sure if they are a compulsory retrofit for older ones.

Let me dig out where I found them, they are just flat panels with 8 LEDS.

The reflectors were only on the 55s I believe.

This is the LEDs:

I think that the reflectors were just on those TFs exported to the USA. Lighting, in particular (reflectors included) was one of the few things specific to particular markets. However they seem a wise addition to any car.

Dave,
the late 1954 UK lighting regulations called for all new cars to have reflectors fitted. I seem to remember all older cars had to have them fitted by 1955. This was the time we had parking lights plugged into the dash socket so we did not flatten our batteries.

Ok. Yes I remember those parking lights - they often hooked over the top of the window glass.
