MG TD TF 1500 - Letter coding on carb pistons
Hello, I have just discovered that my front carb has an A stamped on the front carb piston and a B on the rear piston, visible when removing the air cleaners. I can't find any info on this in the archives. Something wrong? Regards, Jan 54 TF |

Someone matched the pistons to the suction chambers for reassembly. You may find letters somewhere on the domes. Warmly, Dave |

Thank you Dave, that was the kind of explanation I was hoping for! regards, Jan |

I agree with DB (of course I do - I'm no fool:-)). I'm told that the pistons and chambers are machined as a unit and are not interchangeable. Some identifying mark to ensure that the correct piston goes back in its matching chamber would be helpful. Jud |

True.......one of mine has a dot on the piston and the dome...indented with a punch, it seems. The other carb has two dots on the piston and the dome. Cheers, Frank |

I have checked my domes. They have an A and a B punched into them. regards, Jan |
