MG TD TF 1500 - Lift-A-Dot Pegs
Across the top of the scuttle there are 4 pegs and 1 on each out side. Are the 4 pegs on top longer than the rest of the pegs on the car? Unusual request I know, but want the correct length if their different. They come in a couple different lengths. PJ |

Here's one of the pegs I'm speaking about. PJ![]() |

As far as I know, tonneau covers were an after-market accessory, so what's proper is whatever the installer (or you) needs to install. |

The longer pegs are designed so that you can fit 2 layers onto each peg, (2 sockets). However, it could be that yours have longer pegs to allow the single socket and cover to fit neatly over the padding on the scuttle, the longer peg will also hold the base of the socket away from the paintwork and not cause scratches |

Thanks guys, I was also thinking about the longer peg holding the fastener further off the painted surface, didn't realize it was designed to hold two fasteners, right and left flaps I guess. PJ |

Paul, With the view you have there, it looks like I need to drill the holes and install the lift-a-dot pegs before I do anything else. Right now, I have the crash bar on, but no dashboard or windscreen yet. What I need are some good measurements and the pattern where the holes go for the long tonneau (my body man welded up the old holes- there were too many of them, all over the place. Thanks for any help on this. Tyler |

Tyler, I'll see if I can get a couple pics today with measurements. To replace these with the dash in place would be a little difficult, no room for the hands. |

Paul, are you using the pegs with a stud or with a machine screw and nut for the ones the scuttle? Those 4 pegs are accessible by reaching under the scuttle to install a nut while all other pegs access is limited because of having wood behind them. Just curious. Thanks, Lou |

I extensively researched placement of fixing points before fitting mine. Conclusion was, there is no pattern! I fitted 4 across the back, either side of the 2 tank straps. 1 each side on curve of body just behind doors. 1 either side of rear view mirror, and 1 each side on outside of scuttle. All were screwed into wood frame. Do not stretch cover too much when marking fixing points. You may not need additional fixings across top of scuttle if cover fits taut. I am considering using tenax fasteners on rear fixing above tank for ease of removal as space is tight with lift-the-dot. TD29330 |

Lou, The 4 studs on top of the scuttle are threaded with nuts, which I have new, all the rest have the wood screws on them, there are 11 of those counting the 3 that are on the right door for a full cover. Just ordered new ones. PJ |

Mike, I never thought of using Tenex on the back over the tank, but I think that's a good idea! Your right, not much space there. PJ |

Tyler, the first pic shows the center studs on my car. They are 1 5/16" from center of the mirror hole to the center of the stud hole on each side,(arrows). The second pic shows where the 2 studs are over the hump and are a little to the outside of the hump. PJ

I'd never heard of Tenex fasteners but they look neat: https://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=AwrTHRO6DgJVkDIA6NlXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTE1cjF1N2tvBGNvbG8DZ3ExBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDU01FOTI3XzEEc2VjA3BpdnM-?p=tenax+fasteners&fr=sfp&fr2=piv-web Jud |

Tenex work better than lift a dot I believe. Easier to use. If you buy them, get the English ones, more proper for the car. I had a Tonneau cover with them on once and liked them. A little pricey though. Sail boat yards sell them usually. PJ |

Would the Tenex fasten onto an LTD stud? Bud |
Bud Krueger |
No, the tenex stud is a smaller diameter. |

just replaced back 4 fasteners for tonneau with tenax /tenex, also side fastener for hood. Absolutely fantastic, firm and secure, no marking of paintwork, easy to release..... |

I put clear nylon washers under mine to keep paint from chipping. |
