Dave, I have a good 4.55 set from a Magnette. Price is $325 USD.

The one on eBay is a Moss set and I've had bad luck with those.

Dave curious as to the issue with the Moss units? I have one of these kits in my differential but as yet have any mileage on it.

Thanks in advance

I fitted the Moss kit several months ago and have now done 500miled on it. I am getting some noise on the overrun, so
I may have the preload wrong. For inspection purposes I changed the oil, but there was no metal in it that I could see.

If you get one from Moss that doesn't go "wah wah wah" right out of the box I'd be surprised.

About 15 years ago I had a 4:55 set from Moss fitted to my TD and have been entirely satisfied. Interestingly it was made in India. I wonder if they were the same as fitted to the Hindustan Ambassador cars?

The new manufacture Moss gears are best to leave in Moss's inventory. Buyer beware. email me if you need details.

Mine run quiet albeit with only 58 mi on the car, I don't have any time on them.

My research suggests that the problem with the recent Moss 4.55 is that the ring gear teeth vary in height .009". This means that there is no way to get proper gear backlash, which is why it goes "wah wah wah" right out of the box. Cheers

There must be some variability in individual units then, because I didn't have that problem. What concerned me most about the Moss kit was the uncertain quality of the bearings, so I replaced them. I also used Dave Clarke's excellent half shafts.
