MG TD TF 1500 - Looking for a Falcon stainless muffler
Wadding is gone out of mine and Moss no longer carries them...gee I wonder why. If you have one you didn't use for whatever reason and it's still servicable I'm interested. I may have a go at repacking it if anybody knows for sure what a suitable material would be. Thanks |

LaVerne, I have the Moss SS exhaust on my car and cannot say one bad thing about it. The sound is nice and there are several in our club and all work great. I have never heard a Falcon other than yours but is there that big a difference? Just wondering... |

Falcon was the brand Moss used to sell before they started pushing the Tourist Trophy brand. They still sell the Falcon brand along side the Tourist Trophy for other models..probably until the stock runs out. Moss tells me a muffler from the new system "might" work. |

ah ha, thanks. |

What did Moss sell in 1977? I'm still running mine and it is as good as new and not stainless I'm sure. |

I know this is a bit off kilter, but I have a NOS steel TF muffler, still in it's box. I'd like to pass it on to someone who could use it. Contact me if interested. Tom '54 TF |

LED The stainless packing is available,,, but how do you plan on getting it in, and then sealing it back up??? Cut and weld??? My 1986 version is getting a bit louder,,,,,,I doubt that there is any thing left in there,,,, http://shop.steelwooldirect.com/Core-Wrap-Stainless-Steel-11x205x1-4-MP11x205.htm SPW |

I put a Falcon on mine, the fit was perfect and quality appears to be very good. Of course using it will take some time yet, haven't touched the car in some time.

Thanks Tom but the stock one won't work. Thanks Steve ... some food for thought. I have the Falcon stainless in the B, the TF and the TD. I guess it just couldn't handle what I threw at it. |

Speed Kills, Laverne.....Mufflers first. |

Bizarre isn't it Here I am trying to work out how to get some wadding out of my exhaust to get a bit more of a raspy snarly sound. And LaVerne is trying to wok out how to get the wadding back in. One of you out there has managed to strike the perfect balance. Come on. Own up.. Who is it? |

Laverne you could solve the problem with adjustable hearing aids Volume up ...= full blast Volume down no sound . Also handy if the wife comes up with here "to do " list . Sorry I couldn 't resist (lol) |

The sound is a bit fun for a short time...but becomes pretty annoying after a while. If I drive it for a long period I'm gonna need that hearing aid sooner than later Gerard. |

I thought the Green Hornet was so fast that the sound never got to the cockpit.. |

To qoute T.E. Lawrence (of Arabia) riding his Brough Superior SS100: "I accelerate , and at a certain speed the the sound from exhaust pipe snaps like a cord, and I am alone with the wind..." Regards, Jan |

Normally that's true Tom, but with this "club" thing going on it isn't quite cricket to leave the group in the wake. LOL :-) |

I read Barney's adventure but in the end he wasn't sucsessful. I think I'd cut the end off the can ..stuff it and find somebody that can weld stainless. I think Barneys straight fiberglass pack was his down fall myself. I'm not to fond of his plug method with the muffler sitting under the cockpit on a T car either. |
L E D LaVerne |
Depends on how you define "successful". Barney said he got 10k miles out of his repack. The way I drive my B, that's probably 2 years. Not great but not terrible. On my TD that would translate to 8-10 years! I actually tried his method on my Falcon muffler on my B. It seemed to help with the noise. I used an electrical box plug and had to fabricate a strap to hold it in (a piece of steel with a hole drilled and tapped, and a hole going through the face of the plug into). As you allude, on the B (or A) it's at the back of the car rather than underneath so if it leaks a little it's less of a deal. |
