MG TD TF 1500 - Lourvered Inspection Panels TF

Does the engine bay side panel on a TF have captive nuts to secure the lourvered inspection cover. My side panel is a new old stock and simply has holes. I suppose I could get a spanner to loose nuts but suspect they should be captive. I am reluctant to weld on nuts for fear of distorting the panel.

I believe they are called "Ovation Clips" ?
Not sure on "correct colure" but look like these.
(Mine are black and I used stainless crosshead screws that I am sure are "wrong...but when I got the car one was rusted tight and was not fun to get off!)

Thanks David,

I suspected as much - the very clips that scratch the paint and then rust!

Jan,
Hindsight:
Thought of it too late for mine...maybe work for you?
"Open" the clips a bit and coat in tool handle dip / rubber bumper paint.
That would put a layer of rubber in there.
They move a bit to be self centering and thus cause the chips.

Wouldn't dzuse fasteners work a little better?? 1/2 turn and they are off,,

dzuse another option I guess.
BTW : I did put nylon washers on my screws so they don't chip the paint on the panel.

A small nitty detail for the Phillips style machine screws for the louvers is the tip of the screw was blunted not pointed. Simply, grind the point off.

In hot climates I guess it is better to just keep those louvres on the shelf to improve cooling (of the engine, not the shelf)?

Or ...turn them around so they "scoop air" ?
Have wondered about that a few times.
David Sheward

Scooping air would simply cause back pressure behind the radiator. The engine bay needs an entry (radiator) and a larger exit (vents and between chassis rails).
