What's the issue with Lucas parts? I've had numerous cars fitted with Lucas equipment and apart from wear and tear or simply old age I have had no problems. I do recall though having to replace several Bosch alternators. Jan T |

I agree with Jan T Part of the problem with many Lucas products is that they were made in such a way that they could be opened and interfered with by people who had no idea of what they were doing. Wayne Routley TD1864 Y6668 |

I find articles like this to be fun to read. That said, as I get close to replacing the wiring on my nuts'n'bolts resto, the original 1952 vintage wiring is SO brittle, hard rubber insulation, just a little flexing and all the covering is at my feet. It's no wonder there is so much bad public opinion about the old stuff. New wiring + basic electrical integrity should = no problems. This TD is about my 6th full restoration project (but it is my first British car). I suspect it is a combination off age, heat, exposure, antiquated connectors and components, moisture, all adding up to short and open circuits. My TD and I are just three weeks apart in age. When done, my it will be as good as (or better than?) new. Me, on the other hand, maybe not so much - and I quit smoking 30 years ago. Bob; |
