MG TD TF 1500 - Made me smile

I let my grand daughter drive her sister last night in the local homecoming parade. That made her the only other person to drive my TD in 40 years.

Bill Brown

Great shot! It surely is a privilege to have young people enjoy t type motoring . My brothers son, age 27 drove my TF Last week. He is scarred for life, reading classic cars magazines....

Very cool pic, Bill. Much classier than the standard garden variety drop top Mustang. Be awhile before my grandkids drive mine - but the want-to is there. Dan

Awesome!

Not too many youngins left anymore who can drive a stick shift!

PS - Nice color on your TD!

Neat shot Dan.

I really got soft as I allowed another grand daughter drive her sister my other classic in the same parade. I'm getting older and it is time to allow these young ladies to build some of their own memories. Neat to watch them from the side lines.

I've always said, grand kids have grand parents to spoil them! That's what were for! PJ

Bill,

You have every right to be beaming from ear to ear. They are lovely young ladies. I'm sure that they are fun for you to have around. My first grand child (my daughter is having a girl) is due to arrive any day now. I can hardly wait. Maybe I'll have my car finished by the time she starts driving!

This is my 2 grandsons. Still a while before they get a shot at driving the TD. The one behind the wheel has just turned 8, and is wearing size 12 men's shoes. I barely have enough room down by the pedals with my 9 1/2's. I don't know if he will have enough room by the time he is driving age.

Spoil 'em, Bill. Looks like a 67 smallblock with an SS hood. A different driving experience from our old T-cars. Passing on a appreciation of vintage vehicles should be a part of our responsibilities as custodians of these old pieces of history. Parades and shows are a way to keep the ole things in the public eye. Looks like ya got at least 3 or 4 more years of parade requests from the girls-what are you gonna do for an encore? Dan

Lovely ladies, lovely cars ...doesn't get much better than that!

IMHO The drivers should be the homecoming queens. - georgeous!!

Good to see the younger generations taking an interest. If they don't, the cars will likely disappear. Drive em' don't hide em.

Alex, unfortunately I am seeing this already happening. Seems like the trend is tuner cars with loud radios and farty mufflers. The interest is speed and not what it takes to preserve a classic. I know at the local car shows my Camaro draws far more attention than my TD even though the TD is in far more original and in much better condition. I'll continue to buck this trend and show the MG. I must say however when a person recognizes this little car, the conversation is much deeper.

Perhaps just my opinion

Bill,

I know what you mean. I am a younger owner (late 30s) and am active on Facebook. My car is well represented on my page. It is not uncommon for me to get posts from friends indicating they saw me on the freeway when I drive to work or am out for a weekend drive.

I find that many folks older than I, want to stop and tell me about having one or want to share a story about riding in one when they were you. I get cards dropped in the cockpit that I sometimes find weeks later requesting a call to share a story. I always follow up since the stories are part and parcel of the ownership experience. I LOVE it. I offer as many rides as I can because I want to garner as much interest in not only the TF, but the hobby of all things old and stylish. If we don't generate a crowd of followers, we won't have anyone to talk to when we stop for ice cream.

Glad to see you got the grand daughters out driving your T in front of a crowd of other yongsters. What great exposure for the breed.
