MG TD TF 1500 - Manifold studs from ARP

I received a reply from Donavan @ ARP. He said that it would take an order of 150 to get them produced.

I asked if they would have to be purchased through existing vendors or if the would sell them retail. Also asked price...which I do expect him to give me if it must go through existing vendors so I can only guess and will most likley be way off on cost.

Also asked how long to produce if they received the order.

So there you have it... In order to get them produced it would take 38 owners willing to purchase a set at a yet to be determined price....Moss charges 5.39 each for what they sell at the present time. If they cost double to produce...maybe more? by the time they go through a vendor you might be looking at 15 to 20 bucks each?

Just speculating on my end. Are 38 owners willing to spend 80 bucks for 4 studs? Or are any of the vendors will to have them produced and price them that owners are will to purchase and keep the remainder on the shelf with enough profit in it to justify doing so? I have no idea...

The additional strength of a quality bolt would be nice but I am more interested in a stud about a 1/2" longer myself.

Just my two cents.

Bob's your uncle...

You can buy a metric fine die for a couple of pounds and make up studs yourself. I bought some long stainless bolts on eBay and sawed the coarse metric thread and hex heads off to provide stock for studs for the TF.

I could, or I could buy some all thread or I could hope some manufacture would do it for me. :-)

LaVerne,

I posted a couple days ago...

"LaVerne,

I can send you a set of clamps and a handful of nuts if you're interested. email me at jrnorthrupsr@yahoo.com.

There's really nothing wrong with the original studs. They could stand to have more than just the single 8mm nut threads for clamping force, like asking a boy to do a man's job."

If you want new high strength studs, keep on ARP. If you'd like a set of clamps to doublenut your perfectly adequate studs, email me your address.

Does anyone have a old or broken stud that Icould test for hardness. Icould make longer studs from 4140 if I know how hard they are. The only sample I have is on my car and don't want to remove to put on the hardness tester. Also SS bolts are not rated for strenth and most all thread is grade 2 unless you get B7 rod. I worked in a machine shop for many years so I know about bolts and steel types and hardness. Forrest TD/C/ 22679
