MG TD TF 1500 - McCullough Supercharger

Does anyone have one of these either on a car, or on the shelf? I have never seen one. Thanks.

Best I can do is at the bottom of this page:

Your page got me on the quest to find one!

Tom,

The McCullogh was a vane-type, or centrifugal blower; not the more compact twin-rotor of Marshall-Nordec, and the modern Eaton.

Paxton and Vortec still make kits using their centrifugal blowers, but that design is inherently large in diameter and I doubt would fit under the hood of a T-Series, especially the TF.

The after-market kits offered by Moss and others, uses the Eaton twin-rotor blower with a Moss-proprietary installation kit.

For the centrifugal installations, have a look at some of the installations on the various web-sites, and you'll see the physically large size involved. Whilst the McCullogh was available for the TD, I never saw one. Even so, must have been a tough fit.

I wish you luck Tom, but be prepared to do some serious fabricating.

You can barely see the McCulloch in an MG...

Given the performance nature of the supercharger and its possible appeal to motorsport enthusiasts McCulloch also actively promoted the VS57 at Carrel Speedway at the Memorial Day meeting on May 30 1954. A supercharged Kaiser was entered in the 250 mile endurance run and it qualified 12th in the 33 car field. A crash with another car resulting in engine damage resulted in an early retirement for the Kaiser after 55 laps however. More positive publicity was achieved via a static display of a MG TD equipped with a McCulloch supercharger, the pace car for the race being garnished with McCulloch supercharger banners and the winner of the 500 lap stock car classic, John Torres driving a Dodge, being presented with a VS57 supercharger.

Good reading.

I recall in high school, a McCulloch torn all apart. The auto mechanics instructor was a real idiot. What a waste of primo equipment.

Great reference, Jim. I wonder why they have the distributor side open, not the carb (and presumably supercharger) side...

Surely SOMEONE has or had one of these!

There are a couple of photos of one on a Healey.

The location is on the opposite side of the carbs.

In the package that is first illustrated,

there's a buble for the hood and the mounting bracket.
Interesting how the mounting bracket looks like it gets sandwiched between the block and the thermostat housing.

Jim, here is the TD you mentioned...
