MG TD TF 1500 - Measurment needed Please

Need the height that the radiator filler neck is above the top tank, measured at the clip cut out

G Mills

Measurement is for a TF Radiator

Thanks

Can you use arrows or a sketch to show the specific points of measurement?

Matthew.

G/day Matthew,
No mate not really bit primitive as far as that stuff goes, I think the radiator guy has put the filler neck in too high the top tank, a measurement from the top of the neck where the clip entry cut away is to the top tank would be good.

The top of my neck is 21mm above the surrounding flat part of the tank. But I am not sure which part of the "clip entry cut away" is that you want a measurement to?

Matthew can you see the section that is cut away enabling the cap to go on that edge is the most accurate for a measurement, even a measurement from the top of the cap will give me some idea, the distance of mine is around 23 mm from the top edge of the neck.

G Mills

I'm probably a bit slow tonight, but since the cut away is an irregular curved edge, how do you measure that??
Just draw a sketch and photograph it like you did with the radiator then I will have the specific points that you want me to measure.

George, How about laying a straight edge across the top of the neck and measure down from there, it would give a more accurate measurement and could be measured anywhere around the base. I see what Matthews getting at, as there is more than one elevation at the lip of the neck. A straight edge would eliminate that confusion. PJ

George, I just measured mine from a straight edge across the top with a depth gauge and it measures 25/32 or 19.8 mm from the very top of the neck, where the cap seals, to the top of the tank solder joint. My rad was re-done with a new core, but they didn't have to remove the filler neck, so it is still at the factory position. PJ

Thanks for your help fella's, last night I assembled the radiator and the grille and sat it in the car partly bolted down, my fears of the radiator cap sitting too high were unfounded as it appears to have enough clearance (looked a bit SUS whilst sitting on the bench)hence my request for measurements, anyway I did find that those two brackets that solder onto the front of the top tank to brace the Grille were just not right , I have had so much trouble with these brackets, trying to get them into the original shape after somebody had butchered them and then soldered them into the wrong position.
The brackets were not soldered on but I did bolt them up with the bottom edge sitting securely where the tank meets the core, I found that they were too high and were pushing the grille edge upwards thus causing the bonnet to sit high, so I took them off and am happy to say that the bonnet / grille fitment looks half reasonable.
Soldier on..........
