MG TD TF 1500 - Mechanic Needed Judson Install TF

I have a 1954 MG TF and a rebuilt Judson Supercharger and carbs, oiler. Any recommendations on a mechanic who has actually installed one of these? I live in Northern New Jersey. Thanks, Keith

Keith, I have installed Judsons on several cars (though not a TF) and I'm in soon to be installing one on my Morris. I'd be happy to help you install it if you can wait a bit. I'll be out of the US until about the end of July.

Keith,
If you want a reliable, turn key installation you may want to try one of Tom Lange's supercharger kits. He sells a modern supercharger that bolts right in, high power and reliability, low maintenance hassle and worries.

The Judson is very easy to install, however on the TF you do have to cut into the hood in order for the thing to fit. it is not a big cut, it is on the inside so it does not show from the outside. you have to have the oiler and the double pulley on the engine and on a TF this is not easily gotten to. I am with David on this, sell the Judson and use one of Tom Lange's superchargers. The Judson is heavy, old technology and tricky to run due to heat buildup. I had one, loved it but it was a pain to deal with all that drip method of oiling the thing, putting up with spark plug fouling issues. Not to mention getting it alligned with the proper belts and replacing them once in a while. You should be able to get at least 3500 for the Judson if you have the oiler and the pulleys.

Keith,
I agree with David and Tom above. If you remember I had a Judson on my TD for several years. Besides dealing with 70-year-old technology the Judson requires a quart of Marvel Mystery oil to be added to the oiler every 300 miles. The internal veins that operate the compression system are made of a phenolic material and need to be replaced periodically. This requires removal of unit and complete disassembly and of course reassembly angry installation. The bearings on the main shaft need to be kept lubricated.
The single carburetor on mine had an inch and a half throat.

In my opinion, other than being period correct, the performance improvement is not worth the maintenance and tuning required.

I sold my Judson on eBay for virtually the same price as a new supercharger.
