MG TD TF 1500 - Metal Skin Radius Bend

I'm just about to finish off the bogging around the passenger door opening prior to painting as we FINALLY have some low humidity days of around 25% in the afternoons here in Sydney. My question is what is the factory 'edge' to the metal skin. By that I mean how sharp is the radius bend? The best way to answer my question would be to identify the diameter of what you believe to be the appropriate circle. I'm guessing about 5 mm or 3/16" or maybe a little more? The edge I have now I think is a little too sharp but it's easy enough to round it off before I spray the top coat. Be nice to get some input from owners of unmolested cars. Cheers

Not exactly sure what you're talking about...photo please?

The car is miles away Gene. The metal skin is bent over the timber frame. This bend is referred to as a radius bend. This can vary from a gentle curve to a right angle which has almost no radius at all. I'm trying to ascertain just what that ex factory curve is. It seems to me that the best way to describe it would be to describe the curve as part of an arc on the perimeter of a circle. A circle with a 1" diameter would have a very gentle curve, whereas a circle with a diameter of 1/4" would be more like a right angle. I don't know how else to pose the question. Cheers

Peter - "Bogging" has me boggled. Is it Aussie slang? Is this the radius you are talking about? It's a little over 1/16 inch as close as I can measure it.

G'day Joe. That's the one. 'Bog' or even 'mud' are Aussie terms for body filler, although 'mud' is more often used in construction. Your pic gives me a pretty good idea. Thanks mate. Nice to see the four original tacks in the rubber door stop & the original screws in the aluminium threshold. Cheers

Peter

Regard less of what dimensions are advocated i think it prudent to just match the profile to the drivers side of the car. Will stand out like a proverbial if the two sides dont match.

Peter. I would suggest using plastic fillers in the radius itself as it can easily be knocked if with foot traffic etc. feather your material to the leading edge but not over the radius. Does that make sense.

Thanks Bill. Will do. Also will match both sides Graeme. Cheers

Peter. My post should have read "not" to use plastic fillers over the radius as it will be gouged and knocked off from foot traffic etc. Feather your fillers up to the leading edge of the radius

Yeah Bill.. I twigged to that. Cheers
