MG TD TF 1500 - MG?
On last week's "Classic Car Recue", Bernie was at Peter Edney's garage looking for a B to restore. He came upon a car that was shaped pretty much like and MGA. However, the entire bonnet was hinged at the front with a handle on top, and it had an XPAG engine in it. Was this a special? Prototype? Any ideas? George

UMG400 George Phillip's TD with a MGA style body, 1951 Le Mans car. EX175. HMO6 MGA prototype with a XPAG engine and bulge in the bonnet to accommodate the taller engine. Both of these cars are supposed not to exist any longer.

Should have googled first. Check this out, did not know this existed. http://mg-parts.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=1772&product_id=4582 George

Here's EX 186 at Gburg in 2006. At least it's saved and still around. PJ

Is it just me or does that "1937 Peel TA Special" look an awful lot like a big Healey? The rear fenders and door shut lines appear to be identical.

"1937 MG TA Peel special. The chassis, suspension, axles and steering are MG TA. The engine and gearbox are TC." Just curious - how do you put a TC engin and gearbox in a 1937 car? I thought TCs were only produced from '46 to '49. Jud

The TC was brought out after the war to get MG back into the market. It was basically a prewar car (TA/TB) with very few refinements, just a very little bit larger. Cheers - Dave

JUD,, Ya just wait till the 1937 TA is at least 9 years old!!!!

I caught the show tonight and studied this car as much as my freeze frame would allow. It looks like a mildly modified MGA on the outside but the front end is one piece of metal and swings forward like a Spitfire. The engine is definitely an XPAG (even says that on the alloy valve cover) but the radiator is not from a T series and the scuttle doesn't look like a T. It sure looks like it could be a prototype MGA before they decided to put the Austin B series engine in it.

I finished the episode last night. Several glimpses of some t-series cars in the background at Edney's shop. Interesting restoration- you have to wonder about the "2 week" time frame, and of course they never figure in labor costs. George

George. The folks over on the MGB site say that the car that is at the end of the show is not the same one that they started on. I have a hard time believing they could do all that rust repair in two weeks. I did like the tip on sealing the exhaust.

Peter Edneys website lists it as a 1937 Peel TA Special. I would love to know more about this. Apparently there were more than 1. Here is his link. http://mg-parts.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=1762_1792&product_id=4582
