MG TD TF 1500 - MG TC TD TF Vintage Cloth Covered Ignition Wires

What can you guys tell me about the wire sets installed on the MG TD? Mine are currently black and I assume that is the way the cars rolled off the line. I have seen a few fancy wire sets out there that claim to be period correct such as this ebay listing. (181257803582) I have thought about adding something like this to my engine compartment to spruce it up a bit. For me they don't have to be factory perfect but I would prefer period correct. What do you guys think?

Thanks

Rich

Check out Chris Couper's website. If you are talking about the loom I believe he is correct as far as North American cars go. Black with a yellow diagonal "trace". I'm still researching loom colours for RHD cars destined for Australia. I bought an "original" loom for my TD, made by Vic Longdon through Sportsparts in 1970, based on Vic's extensive research. Unfortunately he is no longer with us. You can see the colour in the attached pic.

Just opened your image Rich. The spark plug leads I believe were black.

Attached is a picture of my 'spruced up' ignition wires. It adds a bit of colour. The side entry distributor cap is correct for the Y-type.

The seller of the ignition wires told me he was selling out this type of wire because he had had complaints about them.
Up until now however, they have performed well, even when run too close to each other as I have them now. I like them that way because you can't switch the wires, even in a hurry.

I realize it is not firm evidence. but on virtually all "older" cars - cars that have not been touched in years - the plug wires are all old, black, solid-core wire. I have an old roll of Packard 440 wire that works fine, and which I have never had break.

You can use the bumble-bee or colored wire wire if you chose, but it looks a bit garish to me. I would also use the wire separator that Moss sells, as it seems to be very original.

Thanks guys. I was just thinking about adding some color to the left side of the compartment to spruce it up a bit. I want it to be period correct though. Thanks for the pictures and input.
