MG TD TF 1500 - MG TD side curtain bags
Moss offers a side curtain package for the TD at about $170 US. 4 bags with the MG crest. I have been told that is not original. What do you guys know about the original bags, and do you have pictures? Thanks Rich |

Hi Rich, The concept of bags to protect the side curtains is one that has been developed as an option for owners. No such bags were supplied by the factory. The owner's manual and the factory shop manual contain a detailed description of how to store the curtains in the car. The storage area is a tight fit for the 4 side curtains and they must be configured correctly in order to fit in the storage area. Many avoid use of the storage area and use the bags as an alternate means of stowing the curtains. Placing the curtains behind the seat in the bags is more convenient - but they take up a great deal of space. |

I use the Moss storage bags and keep the curtains in the storage compartment. The bag material is very thin. I think the curtains are so tight a fit because the Stayfast canvas is thicker than the original? Most importantly, the bags keep the paint and plastic from being scratched and messed up. George |

I made my own bags years ago. I even have little feet for the rear side curtains so they can still be interleaved in order to store them correctly. As Jeff points out originally there were no bags. |

I was told once that there was a sleeve available that was one piece that held all four curtains. By the way it was told to me I thought it to be a factory option or accessory. I believe you guys when you say there were never bags provided. Hopefully I can get a few more opinions on this. Thanks Rich www.mgtd.co.nr |

Hello all, I wanted to update you on my findings. I bought the Moss bags for my side curtains. $170 + $20 for shipping, so now I am in $190. I would not do it again. Yes I can return them, but I will probably just call it a lesson learned. The bags are nice and will indeed serve the purpose I intended. I will probably modify them some. For example the extra material that folds over simply just folds over, nothing to hold it in place. A patch or two of Velcro can be sewed into place to help. It appears that one of the bags is made out of a slightly different fabric then the other three (can you see which one?). It is very hard to tell, but I can. The description in the Moss book is very brief. I assumed there would be a MG crest patch on each bag, nope only one! I guess the bottom line is for $170 it is simply a rip off. There is probably $20 worth of fabric, and maybe at tops an hour worth of labor involved in these bags for a professional sewer. My pa, currently in Arizona living as a snow bird, upon return will tell me how stupid I am and say "I can make those for $30!" I don't want to look at them on my bench until June so I will keep the darn things. I may try and talk dad into making some to sell at a much cheaper price and with a better design when he returns. Let me know if you might be interested. (rrking13@comcast.net) Also, I had a thread about fitting the side curtains in the back storage area of my TD. I have an early TD but managed to fit them in with the "type 2" storage directions. The door was a tight fit and I did not like the tension the curtains put on the door. So for now I just put the front windows in the storage box and the back two behind the seat. I hope this helps someone. Pictures of my curtains in the bags included. Rich www.mgtd.co.nr ![]() |

Patch on each bag? They are stowed in the dark, who cares. Rip off? Moss has to pay for insurance: worker's comp, employee health (which will massively increase due to the Unaffordable Care Act fees/requirements), liability- huge for any auto parts supplier, building and contents, etc., state, federal and local taxes and license fees , loan interest, employee salaries; water, power, internet, IT expenses, building and equipment maintenance, return on the business for the owners, patent/ license fees for all of the trademarked things (ie "MG"), and they need to make a profit to reinvest and make all of the good stuff that keep our cars going. There is no doubt a huge expense meeting dubious but required governmental regulations. Ever heard of PCI compliance? Really expensive. That is why the bags cost what they do. Send them back, get a refund, every thing else you need as cheaply as possible, and then Moss will be gone. Just my opinion. George |

Relax, I was just putting my opinion out there to help somebody else make a decision! And a patch on each bag, who cares? I DO! |
