MG TD TF 1500 - MG100, New Zealand

Back home now for a couple of days, after eight days of fun and sun. First time for a 'progressive' rally for me. Concours and social run/lunch in Auckland, trail on run to Taupo where we had track day, then on to Napier for gymkhana and final dinner. Lots drunk and eaten. Overall, still about 25miles/proper gallon. With temperatures between 28-30degC a very hot and dusty time, the trip home made worse by an accident that slowed traffic to a crawl. I came fifth overall out of 83 cars and 1st in Pre56 class, although not much competition from older cars, did NOT manage to beat racing TC on track. All up about 1100km (684mls)

Sounds like you had a good time. Good finishes too! We stopped in Taupo for lunch and drove past the motorsport park when we vacationed in AU/NZ last October. We were driving from Wellington to Auckland. Pretty countryside, and Huka Falls near Taupo was impressive. Quite a turnout for the event with 83 participants.

I have a friend, not an MG owner, who was in New Zealand on Sunday, the 14th near Wellington. He saw a black pre-war (?) MG on a trailer being towed. Anyone know who that might have been?
Lew Palmer

Lew, no idea from me, all Rally cars were in Auckland by then. Here is a picture I meant to post yesterday.

Try again, finally told me file was too big.

Bernard:

I'm assuming that's your blue TD? I admit I've not followed the TD's as I do the TF, and what caught my attention was the triple wiper blades. All the pictures I've seen they have but two. Was that an option/or standard offering depending on what year the TD was made, or something you made/modified from the standard 2 blade wiper set-up?
Jim Rice

Jim, When I moved the wiper motor into the centre for safety reasons, I thought why not add a 3rd wiper rather than just an idler arm. Never standard or available but I believe others have done it, makes them a little bit more efficient.

Great to hear of cars being taken out for a real drive. When we toured New Zealand ( North and South Islands) we had to rely on hire cars which was a pity because there are some great roads for the classic car driver.
