MG TD TF 1500 - MGB fan install revisited

I inquired about this earlier but can't find my own thread searching the archives.

Declan I have tried every source known to man in the US and can't find the 7mm tubing or a bar stock for the inserts to close the holes for the mounting bolts. As I am having to pull my radiator out this is a good time to get my B fan in place. Is it possible for you make me up a set and send them to me? You can reply to my email

Bill, I installed one of these (and it works great), but for the life of me I don't remember needing anything other than the screws that hold it on. It's been a while so I can't say I'm 100% on this. LaVerne helped me that day. LaVerne, are you out there in cyber space?

Declan recomends the bushing...probably a good idea. But I've put 3 of them on without them. They were not sloppy enough for me to be concerned. I saw on the other site where he said something about a ball point pen tube might work Bill.

penn state turning has 7 mm brass tubes for pen use. they are cheap, any woodturning shop would have them.

I would think you should be able to find them on amazon or ebay without too much difficulty.
for example http://www.ebay.com/itm/7mm-Brass-K-and-S-Tubing-30-5cm-/361001334764?hash=item540d5b37ec:m:m2Jan3RLDq7P0MdElGd3JBg

Geoffrey thank you so very much. I never thought about looking at eBay. I was hitting auto parts stores and websites and hitting dead ends. I will place an order from the eBay source you listedq

Cheers

Hold on Bill.. I'm sure you can find it on eBay but I am not sure that is the right part... It's the right OD but I am not sure it's the right ID... I just grabbed the first thing I saw as an example... Be careful...

Bill,
I can make them up for you but a simple piece of 1mm wall thickness plastic or metal tube would do-the idea with the ball point pen just came to mind. The holes in the rivets on the fans vary and are on average 6.95mm. 7mm OD tube could be pressed in. The fan bolt shanks I measured at 5 ... 5.2mm diameter. This would give roughly 1mm movement in any direction if the fan is not sleeved. I make the sleeves at 6.5mm length which is slightly shorter than the depth of the rivets in the fan. Once bolted up the fan is held in place between the bolt head and the rivets and the tubes only serve the purpose to centre it up while tightening. Make sure you use a washer under the bolt heads that will not pull through the rivets on tightening.
