MG TD TF 1500 - MG'S on TV

Currently watching "The Crown" a Netflix production about the life of Queen Elizabeth II and so far I have seen 3 different MG TDs. In episode 1 there is a red TD parked as a blue TD pulls up. In episode 4 and 5 the Queens husband Prince Phillip is shown as a young man driving a black TD. I wonder have any of our English forum members being renting their cars out. Great to see the cars and an interesting series also if you get to catch it.

Apologies about the quality of the pics as they were taken from the TV

Good pictures!

I recall with a wry grin the 'vigorous discussion' on MG-TABC (Yahoo Groups) about this show. Some were outraged that Prince Phillip was not driving a TC as he did, whilst others were just grateful that the show portrayed a T type.

I once told a TC owner I owned a TD and he sniffed and said the TD was a "girl's car." Not sure what he meant, exactly, but maybe driving a TC requires a hairy chest or something. Not exactly the band of brothers welcome I was expecting.

I think I'd have to land on the side of being grateful a T series car of any type was shown. Few of the uninitiated can tell the difference between them, anyway.

In my younger days back in the 60s when we discovered T Types, a friend of mine found you couldn't unscrew the octagon radiator cap on a TF.
From that day he never considered TFs to be real MGs.

Dad sometimes wonders if any real MG's were built after 1935.

For my money they ceased with the MGA. The T fraternity that I was part of in the 60's didn't have nice things to say about MGB's or the guys that drove them. Cheers

That same attitude surfaced a year ago (Feb 1, 2016) when Lazarus was used to provide a ride for the stars of 'Love Story'. A number of folks had to remind all that in the original move they rode around in a TC. The Wall Street Journal showed a clip with the TC.

On the original series "Poirot" which can be seen on Netflix and elsewhere, there's a beautiful TC in many of the later episodes owned and driven by Poirot's murder mystery writer friend. Love the exhaust note (real or added). Also loved the Lagonda driven by CPT. Hastings in the earlier episodes, as well as many British classics.

Just seen a T type police car on "The man who never was" - British film made in 1956, but set in WW2. Not a bad film.

I recall a family sitcom in the 1970s that was set in Sacramento California that featured a green RHD TD. Can't recall the name of the show?

Nice pictures Darryl. Probably a lot of the T series and other British cars were used in films over the years in that era. I still like the tricked out cars in the Bond series, some of the features on his cars could be quite useful now days! LOL! PJ

It's so easy to get the models correct. There's really no excuse for using a TD in place of a TC in an otherwise historically accurate production. More common is to see TCs used as pre-war cars, but to the credit of such a production it's not only more difficult to find TAs and TBs than it is to find TCs, but even most MG enthusiasts can't tell the difference. So it's almost excusable.

Any exposure is good exposure of course. But historical accuracy is even better. ;)
