MG TD TF 1500 - MGs spotted on interstate 5 (Nevada?)

I came across a video clip that briefly shows several MGs (TCs and TFs) on a US highway presumably heading to an MG gathering probably this year. I thought the owners might enjoy seeing themselves if they can be identified.

The video clip has nothing to do with MGs, but rather a highly modified Ford F-350 pickup truck with an ATV mounted on back. The vehicle is en route to an event called SEMA in the Nevada desert. While driving North on Interstate 5 they encounter the MGs in a caravan.
The MG are about 15 seconds in to the clip and only last 2 or 3 seconds.

Can anyone ID these MG owners?

That was a group of people from Vintage MG of Southern California Heading to Gof West 2018 at lake Tahoe that started on monday and everyone will be leaving on Friday
I'm here at Gof also but came up a different route.

No MGs in this clip??

Happens just briefly Ed. At 13 seconds a yellow TD flashes for an instant and the goes to a red TF just a bit longer and then to a Blue TC. They all flash by very quickly. You have to pause it to get a good look and I'm not even sure you can pause the first one. If somebody knows how to extract a still from it they could repost them.

Here's a TC at 14 seconds. These guys have more nerve than I do. I won't drive my car on busy southern California freeways. It's way too scary with all the trucks, distracted and rude drivers, and just plain level of looniness on the road these days.

I stand corrected....yellow TC.

Yep and they all arrived. Having a good time. Some quite extraordinary vehicles. A drop dead georgeous SA really stands out. Tuesday was a nice day. And we had a late afternoon bbq lakeside. It gets a bit nippy at night. Today was very windy and cold. Tomorrow more of the same for a rally around the Lake. My girls will be riding in a BGT with Bruce Cunha for that event. Thank you Bruce.

Find Derwood and Beverly? Is this the SA? Used to reside in the Denver area but was sold a couple years ago to someone in San Diego. If it is be sure to check out the wood inlays on the interior.

Joe, I drive my TD all the time on the freeways around LA. Not a problem, the car runs well and certainly keeps up with traffic. On the way to Gof if we didn't have traffic in front of us we traveled between 65 and 70. I've seen the speedometer turn over 3 times. I've also driven to the 4 Gof's in Canada.

That looks like the car LaVerne. It was a beauty.

BTW. A friend of Bill's has a two tone green TD. Do you have pictures of the one you are restoring that give a good picture of the two greens? We were discussing if this is the same.
Bruce Cunha

The body work is still at the paint shop and won't come out until the owner returns from Europe mid October. We just put all of the car stuff into storage so I can work on my project. Probably will not touch the TD again until the first of the year or so. Best I can do for now.

L E D LaVerne

Thanks LaVerne. I think his colors were different.

The three cars in the video are dear friends of mine. We just left them today in Mammoth Lakes to get an early start on a 320-mile day in the TC. it was a beautiful day of touring along the Eastern Sierras. Photo from this morning below. So long as we're talking about mountains, behold the highest mountain in the contiguous US directly over my head.

Joe, the occupants of the TF aren't guys at all. It's two ladies who drove 1,200 miles this week in that car. Their husbands are in the cream TC. Gotta love a woman who knows how to use a fuel stick. ;)

Steve Simmons

I really envy all you guys, and gals (can I still say gals, or is that no longer acceptable?), who make long and fun trips in your cars. I did it when the car and I were much younger (about 60 years younger) but there was a lot less traffic then and I was sure I’d live forever. The photo of Steve at the foot of Mt. Whitney reminded me of one of those youthful drives, a spectacular trip over Tioga Pass before it was widened and “improved” to today’s standards and then down the east side of the Sierra Nevada past Mt. Whitney to home. Thanks for the reminder. These days, I just can’t bring myself to take the TD out on the freeway even for short distances.

It's a different world, that's for sure. There has always been danger but there is more of it today than ever. Last night in Mammoth Lakes a woman drove by so drunk she could barely speak, but did manage to utter the words "Those cars are weird. That one is weird and that one is weird." before slowly rolling away in a crooked line. Scary stuff. All we can do is put away the phones and stay alert at all times. I tend to drive like someone is planning to smash into me at an unknown moment of each day.
Steve Simmons

Sorry we missed the event this year, especially since we are just 100 miles away.

Joe: Your comment about going over Tioga pass in the TD back in the day reminded me of a similar trip. This photo was taken just prior to going over Tioga pass from Tuolumne Meadows back in 1964.

It was doubly fun on the old Tioga road with that fixed trailer. I remember my dad having to go into the oncoming lanes when we got to a tight turn.

The SA was a beautiful car to view and I had several long conversations with the owners. While waiting for a table to have lunch in the Hard Rock Casino with my service dog Sarah they approached me to sit with them at their table. Two of the nicest people you’ll ever want to meet. They are very active retired folks who travel all over the country to MG meets to show their fine automobiles. Very interesting history re the SA.

Steve I’m sorry I didn’t meet you in person. Had I known you were there we would have met. You likely saw my SD’s ?Sarah & Maddie) and I walking around. They sure got a lot of attention from many of attendees

I enjoyed catching up with many old friends, making new friends and seeing their cars. TD-4834 was put through its paces on several road trips in the area.

The group had a nice evening outing to Sand Harbor Park for a BBQ lakeside with a spectacular sunset. Many thanks to Robert Tremayne (TD) for transporting Maddie to the event and Bruce Cunha (MGB GT ) for transporting both Sarah and Maddie from the event as the temps dropped when night fell.

Thursday found Bruce and I competing in TD-4834 in a fun rally event. As I was loading the car into the trailer at the end of the event it ran out of petrol as it hit the ramp. Thanks to Bruce and several individuals who provided the man power to push her into the trailer. It was one of those embarrassing moments. John Twist was having a tech session several feet away with a crowd of onlookers. Oh well I had a good laugh afterwards.

Kind of a sad note. My dear friend Lawrie Alexander has sold his fast road TC and this was his final trip in his beloved car before it was to be handed over to its new owner. I know he had mixed emotions about giving it up and he was already on the hunt for a new project to replace it. Lawrie was instrumental in my buying TD-4834 as a basket case from another gentleman and offered his expertise as the reconstruction began. We had bantered about putting both our cars through their paces on a twisty back road but now won’t get that opportunity.

I decided to follow the SVMGCC group as they left Friday morning on a beautiful trip from Lake Tahoe over SR 89 to SR 88 and then down Mormon Emigrant Trail eventually reaching Placerville. From there we split from the group and headed on into Sacramento on US 50.

Pic is of Lawrie and his beautiful TC at a rest stop near SR 88/89 as he prepares to lead the pack. At an elevation of 8000’ it was quite brisk for those braving the cold with their hoods down.
