MG TD TF 1500 - MGT Repair Roadster Gasket Color

I'm in a quandry. I'm about to order more gaskets (over 250 sets sold), and have a chance to get the material in custom made in a tan color, resembling the stock cork gasket.

The problem is that this tan color will cost me about $12 more per set than the red. I charge $55 for a set of two, including postage. Do you think paying $65 is worth it for the tan color, or should I stick with the red for $55? I'm certainly not going to get both...

Thanks

I am going to order a set in the future, color doesn't matter but $12 bucks isn't that much more.

Tom-- I agree withe Richard. The color that you have now (I call it off-red/orange) looks just fine but next time I just might try the new color (if available).

If you're only going to have one color, stick with what you have. That'd be almost 20% increase. If we have the engine & head painted properly, red isn't terribly outstanding. I will be getting a set in the next yr or so.

I have the original tappet plate gasket, with is very orangeish? I painted it engine red to hide it,as the orange jumped out. I would go the extra bucks for tan. George

I think the red/ogange is just fine,,, When some one half way knowledgable looks at the engine, they say
"Oh,,, I see you are using Toms Superior gaskets!"

I have a replacement cork gasket from Moss under the valve cover and cork under the tappet cover and so far they don't leak. Are we saying the original gaskets weren't cork? PJ

I think the red/orange is fine. They are a life time buy though so whatever you choose, you better like it.

12 buck is 12 bucks though. I'd save the money myself.

Honestly I like a little contrast on the gaskets. Just ends up looking like a well put together and prepared engine.

Paul,
The original gaskets were in fact cork,,,, and after a while they start to seep a bit,, and when you take the cover off to adjust the valves, and then replace it, it will probably leak,,,
The Silicone "Roadster" gaskets that Tom sells do not leak,, and will stand up to many cover R & R's

Tom,

I like the present color!

I also agree with Steve Wincze comment in both replies.

When I need another I’ll buy whatever color they are at the time.

OK, I'm going to order the same red/orange as before. I agree that it is sort of a trademark color.

I have to order 100 At a time; if I could order 50 of the tan I would charge more for them, but the color is a special order, with a minimum of 100.

Thanks for the advice. I still have a few sets in stock if anybody needs a set.

Tom I have the original color gaskets on mine and it looks just fine with a polished aluminum casting valve cover. I'm in the plastic injection molding business and I know the effect of color pricing in small quantities. I also believe your present color defines the product.

Tom, were they ever able to make the MG inside pieces that I sent to you?
