MG TD TF 1500 - MGTC racing

For those interested, I just uploaded a video to youtube. It is a race for pre 1961 sports and racing cars and was filmed from my TC race car. It is titled "MGTC at Phillip Island 2013". I hope it provides some amusement.

Thanks Bob,

I enjoyed the video. Can you provide any information about some of the cars you were in close company with?

Kind regards,

Very cool. The poor guy in front of you at the start never knew what hit him. The single seaters you were mixing it up with seemed surprisingly squirley when not on the straights.

Without giving away any of your secrets, what have you got going on with the drive train?
L E D LaVerne

Hi Guys,
The other cars encountered, in order:
Maroon supercharged Lotus replica. Missed the start (as I nearly did too) due to lights being used instead of flag as stated at drivers briefing.
Green #30 GMC OHV 4.8 litre special. (Huge straight line speed!)
Red #15 Gemini Cosworth Formula Junior. Can be heard alongside through several corners.
Blue #24 Austin Healey monoposto special 2.9 litre.
Silver #16 Ford V8 special 4.5 litre.
White #39 Cooper Climax T39 "Bobtail".
Black/Red Lola Climax. Has disc brakes but just squeezes in to our pre 1961 category.
Several lapped cars.

Drive train is just a totally standard TC gearbox and standard TC back axle but the diff centre is a Spridget. At this track I use a 3.7 ratio which gives about 100mph at 5100rpm and 125mph at 6500rpm.

The steering is all standard TC.

Cheers,

Fabulous video Bob. Your engine just loves spending it's time way up in that red sector!!!!

125 in a TC. Now that is impressive.
Bruce Cunha

Mathematically 6500rpm equates to 130mph but GPS is not so generous! I only had GPS working the next day when a strong head wind reduced the speed significantly. It read 120mph at 6200-6300rpm. So, despite my tacho being "spot-on", according to the calibration specialist, it seems that 125mph is the more accurate figure for 6500rpm.

Looks good Bob, all that with only a "standard" amount of boost !!

Hi Don.
I can tell you the honest truth that the boost is "sufficient". I hope I have never mislead you by saying "standard". FYI if you want to know the compression ratio it is "adequate".

I do stand corrected Bob, they were the very words you used. I thought also that the speed would have been sufficient at adequate rpm. OK, but who won?

Thanks for making me check on "Natsoft Race Results!"
1st: Monza Lister Jaguar 3.8 litre,
2nd: Rear engined open wheeler 2.55 litre Repco Holden engined "Faux Pas",
3rd: Elva Courier 1700cc,
4th: Riley 2.5 litre special,
5th: Maserati monoposto 1.5 litre s/c,
6th: Regah special (Elfin tube chassis?) with 1800cc B series engine,
7th: Black/Red Lola Climax you saw in the video.

Although a couple of seconds slower than PB, I lapped quicker than 6th and 7th but paid the price for an "average" qualifying effort! But it made for a fun race and a more interesting video!

Fun video Bob! If anyone is interested in seeing more T car racing go to youtube and search on Frank Filangeri. Lots of races from Limerock, Watkins Glen, Loudon and more. One from LR Fall Festival dated 9/3/2016 #1 is fun. At about 9 minutes I sneak in a 3 car pass on two faster cars.....if only i had been able to hold on to it!
