MG TD TF 1500 - MGTD Film.

I was sent this by a fellow club member. For those who haven't seen it. Enjoy.https://www.facebook.com/groups/157334069474/permalink/10157650560704475/

After recent struggles, I have a new appreciation for the factory side curtain fit.
J Barry

You can catch that one on You Tube also, although it's labeled incorrectly. Quality is a bit higher than on facebook.

Interesting that the driver wasn't advised or perhaps ignored advice about the need to 'run in' a brand new car, straight out of the factory. At one point in the film, the speedo shows the car exceeding 80mph.
David Padgett

There were many things in that film there seemed far fetched. The one thing that was true was the comment about traversing the roads around the Arc de Triomphe, its dangerous enough in a car, but would be lethal for pedestrians or bikes.

Looked to me like they were going to run over a bicyclist when leaving Paris.
Peter Dahlquist

I remember walking across the road to the Arc DE Triomphe with my parents in the mid 50s when like going around Marble Arch in those days traffic was light and it was quite possible. I agree now a days a different matter you use th e under passes.

Anyone notice the 1948 Buick parked at the gas station??

And of course we know that the film was later than 1948 as the TD hadn't been released then, and that Riley production hadn't moved from Coventry to Abingdon until 1949. Fascinating that the two entirely different, but similarly constructed, cars were made alongside each other in the factory, illustrating the comparative lack of automation at the time.
Peter Allen

Great video, I wish there were more like it out there!
SD Denham

She had obviously been run in as the odometer showed 747 miles when we saw the speedo indicating 80 mph. The tripmeter showed 172 miles at that point, which could have been the distance traveled when the car left the factory, as you'd think that the tripmeter would have been reset then. However I've no idea how far the Abingdon factory was from the docks. Great to pause the film to examine the detail. I know we'll all love to have seen this shot in colour, as so many questions could then be answered. Thanks JK. Cheers

From Abingdon to Dover is approx 150miles, though the route would be very different now (avoiding Central London).

Fabulous films Steve and JK. Worthy of inclusion under the "MG Motorsport" subject heading. (Although no-one seems to be viewing those yet.) Feel free to add them, or I can if you like. I was hoping that subject heading will become a bit of a database for this type of thing as it was previously almost unused. Just follow the original post which suggested (if I remember correctly) appropriate thread title and then Film name, film code, short description on separate lines on the first post.

No problem Bob. Please add

Seems strange that the driver's side curtain comes and goes. Sometimes there, other times not. Also in some shots it appears that the rear licence plate changes from black to a light color.
