MG TD TF 1500 - Milano MG special with XPEG motor

An interesting car for sale in Australia at the moment. Information is paraphrased from an advertisement.

“1959 MILANO MG
It was constructed in 1959 and based on a 1933 MG J2 Chassis and suspension. Fitted with MG TC motor bored out to 1466cc coupled to a close ratio MG TC gearbox, TC diff housing with modified A series diff centre. The Milano body was constructed by JWF glass-fibre industries. Ian (Sam) Johnson had a big part to play in the cars construction being the J in JWF.
This iconic Australian special is now offered For Sale it has just had a full body restoration and repaint in two pack orange, (original colour). Mechanically the car is excellent, motor is MG TF 1500 block with all steel internals and the head has been set up to run 98 pump fuel. Comes with Cams Group LB Sports Historic Log Book and COD, the car is also eligible for FIA HTP papers.

Understood to be the first of only six Milano's to be completed by the JWF glass-fibre industries factory the rest of the cars were produced in KIT form only.”

I will put up a few photos of this very nicely presented car. The asking price is $AU60,000.

A couple more pictures.

I thought it interesting that in 1959 they would build a racing car with a front suspension of this type.

Perhaps inspiration from a Jag D-type. Very nice.

I've always loved the body style of that car, but it sure isn't as fast as it looks! ;)
Steve Simmons

That is very neat and no oil leaks?

Michael is there a surviving chassis number for this car? Or a list of the other Milano MG's?

Car has been advertised on eBay for the past two months and no buyers

Most of you are probably too young to remember the Devin-bodied specials of the 1950s. Styled after the Ferrari Monza, Bill Devin produced hundreds at $295. Just Google 'Devin Bodies' and get your fill!

The car in your pictures has a Devin SS (has headrest)body.

A few, new and un-mounted examples still available. Go to http://www.devinspecial.com/devin-bodies.html

What a waste of a J2!

The car featured appears indeed to be a JWF Milano and the one raced by John Scott in period. It is shown on pages 80 and 81 of Mike McCarthy's "Great Australian Sports Cars and Specials".
