MG TD TF 1500 - Missing TF parts!

Can't believe it I thought I had everything but I went to look for the chrome bonnet strips and I can't find them anywhere.
After 3 moves in 30 years I have this sickening feeling I may have left them somewhere.
Looks like my parents may get their attic cleared out in my attempt to find them.

My imediate problem is I am trying to sort out the panel gaps around the bonnet before being sent to the paintshop and I can't connect the 2 sides of the bonnet in order to properly align the panels.

Could anyone give me an idea of the distance between the 2 bonnet sides that the centre chrome strip fills. That is how much room should I allow for the chrome strip.

Thanks

D Lamb

The chrome strip is 20mm wide.
I would say that 18/19mm to the outer edges of the rolled section will be about right.
If you need an exact measurement I will take the end caps off tomorrow and check.
The TF is out in the rain right now and I don't want to get any wetter.

Just noted that the Abingdon Spares catalog indicates that the center chrome hood hinge is the same part for TC/TD/TF. Moss is the same way. Wouldn't surprise me if they didn't have to be trimmed for length. Anybody in the area with a TC/D/F that you could borrow one from to do a test? Bud

Darryl, I might have a cut off of the center chrome strip, Ill look. Don't know how much it would cost to send it by post, but your welcome to it if needed. email me if you want it. PJ

Thanks Guys for all your help.
Ray would you mind terribly to give me the measurement between the 2 sides filled by the chrome part. That is of course if it's not raining.

Darryl, I found the piece! You have email. PJ

Thanks Paul best Birthday present ☺

Darryl,
Does this help? the gap is 3 to 3.5 mm on mine. You should be able to scale up from photo
Although suppliers say it is chrome on brass, mine is stainless steel.
When I had all the bits chromed in 1975 the strip was not as shiney as the rest, when I asked why they said as it was stainless they had just polished it. It has a very low magnetic attraction so I know it is not brass
The car was only 20 years old when I bought it so I can't see anybody tooling up to make bits then (just another old car),

That's great Ray
Interesting about the chrome on stainless steel.
I received a mail last night from Neville Mann in NZ who has 2 TFs he made the point that one of his cars is chrome on brass and the other chrome on stainless steel and in his words "the difference between the 2 cars is considerable"
Paul has found a cut off from his and is sending it to me. I can cut in half and use this to hold the bonnet together.
In the meantime I will continue to keep searching.
Thanks again for all your help guys.

The new strip I bought from Moss is a heavy gauge Brass. Don't know where it was made, but it's beautifully done. PJ

Darryl, The piece is on it's way. PJ

This was kicked around years ago. I recall some cars had polished stainless strips, while others were chromed brass. I recall that the original supplier (?) still makes or made the same strip for current production Morgans. George
