What you are doing reminds me of those whirlwind restorations you hear about, where a flurry of activity means that the car is restored over a 48-hour period! But there is usually a group of guys all working at the same time. BRAVO! Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Tach and speedo position are swapped. Speedo is an after market replacement. Original doesn't work. I fitted the 30 mph light to act as the turn signal warning lite...yes we are going to have turn signals.

I'm rather embarrased about the job I did here. Wrinkle city. But I guess you get what you pay for...in this case nothing. Still much better than what was in there.

Also mounted the antenna wing protectors that hadn't been out of the box in 40 years. Have a pair for the front as well

I tested it before removing the cover and it worked. I have no idea why. I'm almost afraid to touch it. Thats about it for now. Tires and wheels are still at the tire shop. Hope they get done soon. It would be nice to have it off the lift. Not really a restoration Tom. More like a refresh...kinda like a Wheeler Dealers deal I think. Still lots that should be done but leaving for his son. Car really needs a full restoration. ![]() |

Great work, LaVerne! Curious, why did you swap the tach and speedo? The tach is there for a reason - it's a sports car! |

I had planned to put them in their proper locations originally Steve but After I had soldierd the lights into the new dash loom and realized the new speedo took a later push in type fixture I surrendered to putting it back to the way it came into my shop. He/I was lucky I still had a few old ones in my stuff. He preferred to have the speedo verses the tach readable. We are not putting the top frame or mounting the side curtains either. Something again he wants to leave for his son. We will put a new tonneau on and he plans on driving it with the passenger side covered. If it's anything like my TF ...with the speedo on the other side you can't see it. Should make him happy and it was easier for me. Hopefully his son will get the original speedo refurbished and place it properly.

Looking Good Mate ! As for the Direction Indicator system (turn signals), to operate legally in British Columbia, the TC had to be equipped with DI Lamps installed before they could be sold. Lucas had an elaborate system involving two, Mod.# LIR L3 Relay units, Service (Part)# 33095A. These are five terminal boxes, usually mounted on either side of the scuttle (firewall), within the engine compartment. They worked in conjunction with a flasher unit. I reckon those relay boxes are as difficult to obtain today as "moon rocks". I have also been informed that using the two boxes and the unique wiring circuits involved, sometimes led to weird and sometimes disturbing lamp displays being encountered ? I am only the writer here and cannot vouch for the latter. The wiring diagram I have was designed, specifically, for the U.S. market but I suspect it was equally used in Canada. All of the aforementioned relay gear, if utilized, was gone when I acquired my hulk. The car had been stripped of almost every conceivable and easily removable part. To overcome this, I opted for the eight terminal relay system as incorporated within the later TD models for the TC. (also installed in the LHD TD as it came sans a directional system). Being politically correct, regarding restoration, was limited to my wanting ability and the least of my worries. They work and that's what matters! Cheers for now, respectfully: Jack Emdall, TC6768/TD3191, Halfmoon Bay, B.C., Canada |
