MG TD TF 1500 - MOSS BRAKE SHOES
Does any one have any experience with new (within the past year) Moss Brake shoes ?? Advertised with NO CORE charge,, Are they new manufacture? My local reline didn't work out too well,, the lining was too hard, and stopping distance was too long. SPW |

Steve, Just bought a set last Summer and they look like new. Haven't installed them yet, so if a pic is needed, I can do that. I paid no core charge! Now, will they need to be re shaped to match the drums, I have no idea. PJ |

Not for a TD/TF but a set for a TC. The shoes look to be fine but there were issues with the spring pins I had to deal with. Not something of concern on a TD/TF.

Yeah,,, But if they say CLASSIC GOLD , they must be good!!!!! Did you have to ruff up the surface of the lining and the drum before instalation??? SPW |

I'm also curious if they need a mask with a spacer on it as was made by Connor or a penny to aliow for full adjustability SPW |

No work on the linings or drum surface. The TC set up is entirely different than the TD/TF including the adjuster set up...so no issues there. Apparently there were no issues with the original units that were sent to Steve Simmons for fit on his TC, but there were with the ones I received. It involves the fit of the spring pins which the TD/TF do not have. I would imagine that the shoes they are selling are the same as what I put on the TD/TF several years ago and I had no issues with them. As a completely different side note. I notice that the pictures we post now are no longer limited to 1 mb. I wonder what the size limit is now? |

Steve,I have purchased several sets during the past year for various TD's and they have all been fine. No problems. I did have to do a "penny" type trick on a couple of installations but only because the drums had been turned a bit too far. After a bit of driving, I checked the linings and they seemed to be bedding in well. I gave up on local shops to do relining jobs. Moss has furnished me with a good product at a good price. I'm happy. Mark |

Steve, I like to turn the drums (if needed) and have the shoes lined and arced to match the drums. I send them to a shop in Minneapolis, Brake & Equipment Warehouse. This way, there is no bedding in, and the shoes make full contact with the drums from day one. And although I'm sure you know... it is very easy to assemble the front brakes on a TD / TF so you have two trailing shoes instead of two leading shoes. That little misstep can make it very difficult to stop the car. Here is a picture of the left front... warmly, dave ![]() |

Moss stopped accepting cores years ago due partly to the problems with asbestos. George |

Mark, and All, Thanks for the replies,, i just ordered them,,, should be here in about two days,, I'm really glad that they don't require the cores back,,, I'll grind them down to match the drums,, with full ventalation!!!!! Dave, i did use your excelent pictures as a guide when installing the "hard" shoes.. THANK YOU for taking so much time to put the album together! SPW |
