MG TD TF 1500 - Moss Interior Door card fit

Good day to all,
I am still fitting doors on my TD, but I decided it was time for a preliminary look at the interior door card fit. I am glad I did. See the photos. Both door cards fit my doors like this. They fit reasonably well except in this area. Both doors have original wood, so I am confident door shape is as original. What are your experiences and advice?

Thanks for your help,
Jim TD17744

WOW. Not correctable as far as I can tell. Did you purchase this kit recently? I would give Moss a call and see if they will send out another set of door panels.
Bruce Cunha

I would agree with Bruce. FWIW....the doors should be mirror images of themselves. Do you have the same fitment issue on the drivers door? If not...then perhaps there is an issue with the passenger door? I can't quite tell from the pictures, but it seems the door metal has been cut and does not wrap over the wood and secured with nails. Looks like a gap there between the wood and sheet metal. If so, then the metal may be bowed outward creating that gap. Bear in mind there is some clearance between the door front face and the frame when closed...so it may not be apparent if there is really a door issue...not necessarily a door card issue.

My two cents
Jim Rice

Hate to say it, but your door has been mutilated at some point. The metal that is tucked under the outer edge lip should be one piece, and that is rolled over and nailed. Not sure what was done to yours, but there is like an extra piece of metal, and the rolled, nailed part is bent in underneath this. See photos of mine.

So to fix? The split in the door metal has to be addressed, and that outer piece pulled down and in. I had to do a lot of reshaping on my panels here and there, mostly where they were overhanging. Can you slide the panel up and forward? If any spots are then overhanging, easy to fix. Just unglue the vinyl from the back, roll it back, trim the panel and glue back down, etc. If the relief cuts are not too close to the edge, you could make an "extender" piece of backer board to fit the door and then glue the material back down, etc. George

George. I think I see what you are saying. It looks like a new piece of metal was inserted into the outer edge and bent over the part that bends over the wood.

Red New steel. Yellow, Edge of new steel?

It still loos like the panel does not get to the actual edge of the wood.

But if these are repairs, The wood may have been removed and incorrectly replaced.

Thanks for the comments,

Let me start by addressing the "split metal" issue. Sorry for the wild goose chase, but that is an optical illusion. Hopefully the new photo will allay some concerns. Both doors fit the cards in exactly the same way. Thanks for the feedback.

George, thanks for the photos. Since the piping can't foul the door closing, maybe this 3/8" isn't that bad? I haven't tried moving the card forward some. It's starting to sound like I can make this work. Before I started making changes that would prevent me from sending the cards back, I wanted to consult on possible remedies.

Any more feedback you might have is greatly appreciated.

Jim. Thanks for the clarification. That looks totally standard and the wood looks like it is correctly fitted. I am working on my interior today using an NTG (MGBITS) kit. I will put the door card up today and take a picture.

Thanks Bruce

I still have some adjusting to do prior to tacking it in, but here is the fit if the NTG door card.

Thanks Bruce,
Great photos showing as similar fit to mine. Your fit is better, but I think it shows I can make mine work unless you see something I am missing.
