MG TD TF 1500 - Moss Lamp 143-400

Are these lamps exact repos of the originals? Is the outer shell included? Will original parts fit them. Are they brass or tin? PJ

Lucas themselves changed the design of this over the years.
The later ones were castings not formed brass.

In trying to get a good set for my TD off eBay I wound up with one of the cast ones.

I have no knowledge of what Moss has.
I did order a the electrical innards from Abingdon and they are totally different from what is in my 52. Even using a different bulb.
(The did send me a bulb that fits the old style ones and did not fit theirs.

The innards are usable.

I would call Moss and ask.

I just ordered a pair. The quality is so-so. The lens does not fit too well, the screw is hard to thread and the fit is a little off. Overall, they are worth the money and look the part.

The 1130 Lucas lamps are on Ebay right now. Used originals that will need rechroming.

Mulitple listings. Search 1130 Lucas and you should get results.

If buying from ebay, make sure it is the original thin brass type, not the ones with the blocky cast base and no hole for the red dot ( as Jim says) . I think Paul's charged about $70 to chrome mine a couple years ago. Abingdon used to have some very nice repro rims/glass, not sure what is out there now. If you send for chrome, send a lens and screw along. Make sure that the plater does not close down the inside diameter of the body or threads, and that the rim/screw still fit after plating. George

These are supposed to be brass.

Paul, I ordered new lens for my lamps from Stafford and the quality was good. They have an ebay store http://stores.ebay.com/Stafford-Vehicle-Components

This is Stafford's lights. The lens looks more squared off than my originals. Maybe mine have been polished too many times?

They also have original style ignition switches which is even more impressive!

Chris Couper

You are correct Chris, I compared an original lens to the Stafford reproduction and the profile on the edge of the original lens is more rounded where the reproduction is a little more squared off.

Thank you fellas for those sites, much appreciated! The difference in the lens edge wouldn't be an issue, as I'm not building a concourse car. Close, but not concourse. I knew if I could find new chrome brass ones they would be expensive, but to have mine straightened out and chromed, there's not that much difference and I don't have to be a slave to the chrome Shop! Stafford also lists the ones with Lucas medaillon or red dot.

Got these from Abingdon when I did the TD in 2010. Nobody else had any..nobody. The chrome was crap and I had to have them replated. The ones I got from Moss for the TF a few years before that were fine and seem to be holding up well. Slight difference in the lenses. I'm not to sure about having the lense replated as I believe they are crimped to fit.

Paul's Chrome in PA can chrome the lenses without removing the glass. How they did that I have no idea but mine came out perfect.
