MG TD TF 1500 - Moss Mirror Bracket

The Moss mirror bracket sets the mirror in a position where the side curtains on the doors can not be used and allow the door to be opened or closed, the mirrors must be moved, which means they have to come off if the curtains are needed. I fabricated one out of 1/8th stainless with the mirror positioned 1 inch forward, allowing the mirrors and curtains to be used at the same time. I only have one bracket made, which needs more polishing, but you will get the idea. Here's a couple photos. PJ

Paul,

Great work. I'll take two.

Hi Paul
I like your mirror brackets.
Did want to point out that on my TF I had adequate clearance with the moss mirror. The side curtain just brushes the bottom of the mirror.

I'm assuming your mounts are different Tom. I believe these I have are the last ones Moss got in stock and sell with the bracket in mention as a set. They do look nice, mirror could be a little bigger, but come in convex or flat. I got the flat for the drivers side and convex for the right side. They work very well, just can't use them with the curtains in place, using the original brackets. PJ

Paul, I have a TD, not a TF, and I do not have side mirrors from Moss. I do have a Harley side mirror on the driver's side though. And I have to tip it back or the side curtain hits it. Would your bracket work for me too? If so, I'll take one (or a set).

I have a similar issue with my Wind Wings on my TF interfering with my side curtains. I take the Wind Wings off if I have to fit the side curtains. My TF rarely goes out in the rain but I get caught out occasionally

I made the brackets out of 1/8th 304 Annealed stainless, something I had on hand, but to make them again, I would use 301 as it's easier to work with and easier on drill bits. 301 has less chrome in it. I made these on a whim for my car and they work well, to make more I would have to set up better than I am. I'll give it some thought. PJ

Ed, I see no reason why they wouldn't work on a TD if the windshield/windscreen mounts are the same measurements as a TF. PJ

I have contacted someone to see if these can be cut out using his computerized Laser cutter. His machine does very intricate work and the detail is amazing. Not a toy, the bed on his machine will take a 4X8 sheet of steel and cut the most detailed designs you could imagine. I'll update when I get more info. PJ

Tom,
I believe you have a different set up than Paul. I had those and just installed the Moss brackets and mirrors that Paul is showing. Yours mounts in the slotted curved channel. That restricts lowering the windshield. The new ones do not have that restriction but do move the mirrors toward the rear.

Paul,
I have the same Moss setup now on my TD with no problems.
I'll show in a few posts.

I love this BBS.

What you have there appears to be a std wing mirror with the curvy stem and teardrop base. I never thought of attaching one of those to the windscreen.

Dave,
If you are referring to my post the mirror is attached to the windscreen using the Moss bracket shown on the right in Paul's first post.

Mine is on a TD. Paul is on his TF.

They should fit the same.

I can see only one explanation. Paul has obviously rebuilt his car improperly and should do another frame off rebuild.

;)

Paul,
The above post is purely due to cabin fever caused by the snow storm.
