MG TD TF 1500 - Moss Side Curtain Kit Order

As of 4/10/15 I ordered a side curtain kit for the TF from Moss, through one of their distributors. Through no fault of the distributor, Moss hasn't shipped the kit yet! There is nothing in their ad indicating that it would take months, if ever, to get this order filled. Over $1200 and bought through their spring sale, which gives a discount, I am at a loss why the kit hasn't been shipped yet. Many calls have only accumulated nothing but one excuse after another. I don't even have conformation they are even making the set of curtains up. Thinking it would be no big deal, I have a trip planned in August, but now it might have to be canceled due to the fact, I have no side curtains! If anyone wants to order things like this from Moss, be very wary of a delivery date, if any! I'm at a point where I'm a little pissed about this. Emails go unanswered, phone calls only give excuses etc. It just appears no one in Moss gives a damn. I even asked if the order would be filled by August, no answer. Very disappointed in Mosses performance in this matter. As I said before, it's no fault of the distributor, he has even made numerous calls and has received only excuses as I have. I should have bought from another source. PJ

I'm very surprised by this. I've been dealing with Moss for over 8 years (first MGB now MG TD) and always had excellent service. Having said that, however, you may want to visit robbinsautotopco.com and find a distributor in your area. Might get faster service.

Paul,

Moss makes very few parts. Often they are at the mercy of their suppliers. Unfortunately, you want the fabric to match the hood, so that means staying with the same supplier is a must. On the plus side, I drove my car about a year before I fabricated the side curtains, and only then to put the hardware in place. I've shown my car exactly once with side curtains, and driven it maybe three times with them in place. Wind wings keep all the rain out of my cockpit, even in heavy downpours except when at a light.

I hope your kits arrive soon.

Warmly,
Dave

They are probably made by Robbins Tops, which supplies them to Moss I believe. I just got a full tonneau from Robbins thru their website dealer, Topsonline.com, a lot cheaper, same product. I was told up front they are "made to order" and would take at least 2 weeks. They took 3 because they were out of material. My guess is the side curtains are also made to order. They also sell the side curtains at the web site! I had a few issues with my cover and got emails from Doug Robbins himself! You might check this out and cancel your Moss order? Good luck.

What "excuses" are they giving you? Does Moss make up their own kits?

I could be wrong but I believe that Moss makes their own fabric tops but supplies the the Robbins for vinyl orders. The Robbins cloth tops I have seen are not the same as the Moss tops.

Humm LaVerne, Topsonline.com lists both vinyl and stayfast for tops, tonneaus, etc. (I've been there a lot lately.) I guess Moss could make their own, but why would they bother?

You know, it's not the wait, so to speak, but what irks me is I wasn't informed that these kits are made to order and how long it takes to get them made. Nothing in any of their ads display this information. Main excuse was they didn't have the left door frame and had to have it made and I kept getting, "It hasn't been made yet"! One couldn't find the order, another, I have no idea when the frame will be done. That excuse ran for about 6 weeks. Then I was told we have all the frame work, but have to have them upholstered. Question, when will that be? Answer, were not sure. This is the runaround I've been getting. In another week, it'll be 4 months. I've been buying from Moss for 10 years now and never ran into a situation like this. There just isn't any communication, they won't tell me a damn thing. I'm sure it's reached a point where I'm a thorn in their side. Maybe I'll get a set of wind wings to keep out the rain and possibly after that, the curtains will be done by Christmas and Santa can deliver them. That should pretty much set a record. PJ

I doubt Robbins is going to take the time to sew in the Moss tag that is on my top Ed. I've seen Robbins fabric tops before and they are not the same as the Moss versions. Only way to know for sure is to give Moss a call. But then I don't care all that much.

When I first purchased my TD, in the fall of 1966, it did not have side curtains. In fact it still does not have them.

I drove all Winter, from Newton MA to 128 at Waltham, MA, to and from, the entire winter, without either side Curtains or a heater.

I did buy a nice sheepskin coat, however.
