MG TD TF 1500 - Moss Windshield Mirrors

During the recent sale I took advantage of their windshield mirror which basically is a flat chrome bracket that allow mounting of fender mirrors on the windshield.

Tried fitting them yesterday and the brackets are just slightly out, the center hole needs to be ever so slightly towards the rear to allow the top hole to be further forward so the dome nut clears the front if the windshield. (They are installed correctly, I have tried all permutations.

I am left with three options, return the mirrors, enlarge the center hole slightly or order new brackets to see if they are any better and return the bad ones if it works out.

Has anybody else used these with success, my guess is they had a new batch made and they are bad. The middle hole position is critical in allowing the top hole to far enough forward.

Picture shows looking thru the top hole.

I'm picking up a set tomorrow. I'll see if they have the same problem as yours.

I bought mine well over a year ago and had no issues at that time

Mine have been on my car since Jesus was a colonel and the acorn nut is a very tight fit to the front of the frame.

Your pic seems so close you might need to file each of the smaller holes just a tad to get the clearance you need.

Any replacement you get are likely to be of the same batch, and just as far off.

Here's mine, no issues. PJ

Will see how Tim's go, see if there is a batch issue, then it will be back in the box I think. I bought them on sale, so very cheap.

Thanks.

Peter, I just test fit my mirrors (Moss 165-514 and 165-511). Both had clearance for the stud on the mirror bracket to clear the windshield. Perhaps you got a bad batch.

I am wondering if the dome nut where the large hole fits over is incorrect, looks like there are 3 pieces involved, a washer, a nut and a dome nut. The washer is called a "D washer".

I might need to look at that aspect.

Does anybody have a picture of the arrangement of the lower windshield fixed nut?

Thanks.

Here's one but I can't vouch for its accuracy though. Cheers

I have got it to work, I removed the dome nut, regular nut and the washer, then got the mirror bracket behind the washer against the stud.

This allows the top of the mirror bracket to tilt forward enough to make it work.

Left one is in position and have got it set to give a good view from the right seat, seeing it is RHD.

Thanks for all the help folks, I may spend some more time later working on the center hole to see if it can be elongated a little.

Need to get the mirrors on so I can get it out there on the road in just over a month.
