MG TD TF 1500 - Need Windscreen Guid Pin

Not sure what it's commonly called, but I need one for the left side. I know where to get them, but they come with or without the holes pre drilled and tapped. Anyone buy one of these? PJ

Yes I bought and fitted one a few months ago. It came from B&G and was predrilled. When I first tried it I thought that there was no way on earth that it was going to fit! But with fiddling and slight elongation of the holes on the frame it fitted. They come with a little note that almost says - don't expect this to fit easily (my words)!

A few years ago I got one from Moss undrilled, and bent/drilled/tapped/fitted, worked out well. I think my original stud was trashed and not able to rechrome. George

What size screw fits them? 2BA or? PJ

Paul - As I remember it is a 2BA screw, but I also seem to remember (not always accurately anymore) that they have a 100° countersink angle. Cheers - Dave

Thanks Dave. I have good screws from my frame, but if I get one not drilled, I was wondering the thread size. I have a 2BA tap. PJ

It's not easy to drill the holes accurately. I made a jig out of a piece of aluminium that was a snug fit in the channel with sides the same angle as the frame. With this I was able to clamp everything up and mark the centres of the holes. If you don't get these spot on, the mitre on the frame will "ride up" as you tighten the screws. Plywood would probably do instead of aluminium. Metric screws are a good idea since they are readily available in stainless with raised cross heads and normal flat ones.

I bought an undrilled pair from Moss about 3 years ago however they were impossible to fit as the distance from the post to the external corner was much too short & so could not be used. When assembled prior to drilling, the frame was misaligned by almost 1/2" at the corners. Packing was not an option because on a TD that space was needed for the internal wiper motor wiring. When placed on top of the originals the difference was glaringly obvious so I reused mine after having them rechromed. I complained to Moss in writing & on the phone but I never got a reply. The screws are 2BA PJ. Cheers
