MG TD TF 1500 - Never seize - on exhaust
opinions please on using never-seize on intake and exhaust studs to block?
Michael Balahutrak
Also on manifold to exhaust pipe studs/nuts? Thanks, Peter
P G Gilvarry
I've used it on the manifold to down pipe bolts several times. It burns and smokes at first but still seems to work fine in the long run.

Hello Michael. There are two types of never seize, copper based and nickle based. Use the nickle based for high temp areas. I have used it on the exhaust manifold to tail pipe studs and on spark plugs especially in aluminum heads. Butch

As Butch said it is must use on spark plugs in aluminum heads or you’ll pull the threads out of the castings.

Thanks The Moss gasket has a silver side and a black carbon side Which side should be against the engine block? I plan to use Permatex REd high temp on all mating surfaces (good to 750 degrees)

The exhaust gasket's shiny side goes to the exhaust manifold, the plain side goes to the head. I never use gasket cement or seal on the exhaust gasket, I put it on dry. I do use high temperature silicon gasket cement on my aircraft's engine, but they lack an exhaust gasket. Warmly, Dave

Thanks all for your good comments

Dry gasket on my TF, no sealant and like Dave, shiny side goes toward the exhaust manifold. No leaks!
