MG TD TF 1500 - New License Plates

Gentlemen,

In the course of my business travels I attend 40-50 car international shows a year. At a recent show in Essen Germany, I came across a company that can make virtually any license plate for any state or country. Please note that these are replica plates and not legal in most cases. However, I had him make a few for me just for fun. I was amazed at the quality and found them to be indistinguishable from the real thing. The only clue being on his retro plates, they are made from aluminum not steel. The sample shown in the photo below is amazing, stamped and colored like the real thing. This plate is just a novelty for my girlfriend to hang on the wall and is easy to spot as a fake, for in California you can only have 7 characters on a plate. He will print anything, nice or naughty, including an MG logo, as long as it will physically fit on the plate. I asked him why he does so many American styles plates. He replied that this is an offshoot of business he does with many American movie studios. One of my buddys had them make a copy of his current plate for the front of his car that was crushed badly in an accident. His only other choice was a modern replacement issued by the state in the new colors and number/letter sequence. I have no involvement with this company other than a happy customer. They are located in Germany and you can reach them at +49 8771 909 03 23 or at www.ebay.de/usr/license_plates_shop

Has anyone tried to get the English version of this website?
I have the main titles in English but the details are in German.
A link in English would be useful.

What are you using for a browser?
All I see is English. Maybe someone has messed with the language settings.
I'm using IE.

I am using Firefox on my Mac.

This is a legal aluminum Ok tag. This is mine, which I was very lucky to get. Only thing is, it took over 9 months to get it. Regular plate must be carried in the car. PJ

Mort, I'm with you. I tried Safari, Chrome, Firefox and IE. Same effect, major titles in English, but details in German. It seems to be something with eBay.de. Nothing to do with the security 's'. Bud

I'm using google chrome and I'm given the option, up near the web bar, to translate from the original (German) to English.

Got it, Gene. Thanks, Bud

I tried Google Chrome on my Mac but I got the same language problem.

When I lived in Kansas, I had personalized plates on my 2 Oldsmobiles. I never did get one for my MG-TD.
The 1902 Olds is the first production model. The Alero is one of the final 500 cars produced. As far as I know I have the only pair of first and last edition Olds in private hands. I know of one museum that also has the pair. I had no problem getting them in Kansas. It took only a couple weeks. When I moved to Delaware, I could not get both plates, so I no longer have them on the cars.

John
A member of my car club in Darwin (NT, Australia) built a Replica Olds.
As he was a stationary engine buff and had a spare or two single piston engines and numerous other spares around his shed, he decided to build an Olds based on a scaled plan.
He was even able to get it on Classic Vehicle plates.

The photo is taken inside the car club building (an 1934 ex QANTAS Hangar which survived WW2 bombings)

I have read that in NJ, as long as you have your Actual Plates in the vehicle you can run with Period correct plates on the car.
I have been looking for a 1952 NJ plate with MG xx on it. No luck so far. I am not sure MG was a proper code in 1952.

I did find a nice low 52' plate and it just arrived.
Plates are very different is size and barely fit.

I doubt Trim rings are available.
Very Heavy steel. Quite Rugged.

So for now it will do.

A Peddicord: When I lived in California my TD had the official blue and yellow California plates but the cool thing was to have the older black and yellow plates. So I carefully painted them black and yellow, ran them that way for 30 years and was never stopped or questioned about them. I think the police have bigger issues to deal with than non official plates as long as the numbers, letters, size are correct, you have the current year sticker in place and run a front plate.
