MG TD TF 1500 - New Top request

After 16 years it is time to give the TD a new top and I'd like to do that properly. I've attached a photo of how my existing top is mounted. To be honest I have seen cleaner looking mountings. See the next picture below.

Could someone please post how the rear should look ?

Should the interior color match the exterior or could I use black on a tan top?

What about covering the metal ribs with material to match the inside color?

Thanks

Here is a picture of one I have seen in a book. Is this the way they should look?

Second picture is how the top should look. First picture is not "correct".

The hood should be secured with screws and finishing washers, but some have used "snaps", but they should be under the rear finishing flap. I will try and find a picture.

Only picture I have...

If you use gripper snaps around the back of the top, it becomes much easier to load stuff behind the seats. The snaps are then covered by the flap in the rear. Turns the TD with the top up into a hatch back :-) Cheers - Dave

Thank you very much for the information.

JWP, Dave Braun probably has the most well documented guide for installation of the top. Not only that but his work was meticulous and his results superb.

I did a bit of a modification by attaching the front of the top to the wooden top rail in a non-permanent manner so that the top can be completely removed and stored without having to remove the hood frame. Somebody published my illustrated guide (not nearly as good as Dave's) but I can't recall who or where. I'll check the archives and post the where if I can find it. Here's how I did the gripper snaps at the rear. A picture of the front attachment will follow.

BTW, all TDs came with tan (beige?) hoods and tonneaus.

JWP, I think this link will take you to an archived thread that shows my installation:

I think it's also at http://www.ttalk.info/Hood/
