MG TD TF 1500 - No Surprise Really
Bumper all done, looks good, next project was to service the Clock, easy job seeing I restore vintage timepieces as my other hobby, this should have been a piece of cake, except the fact that some PO glued the hour hand on, I can't say much more except ask what to do now I am in Tears. Regards George |

George When you say the hand is glued on I surmise you mean to the pinion. Careful application of a hot soldering iron will destroy the adhesion properties of the glue facilitating hand removal. |
G Evans |
Yes the hand had at some time broken off and it was stuck on with some type of glue, I need a new hand Here's hoping someone has a spare. Regards George |

Shouldn't be too awfully hard to make one using some brass sheet stock, a fine saw, some riffling files and a drill? |

Another way is to get a CAD drawing made of the hand and then get one water jet cut. I drew some antique clock hands for a friend some years ago and he had them cut out. The problem may be that the TF clock hand is too small. It may still be possible though. |

George, With all the clocks out there and you having experience with clocks, isn't there some parts somewhere that would be the correct size and shape? How about a hand from an old pocket watch, some being plain, some being fancy and in various sizes? Just a thought, as I know nothing about clocks. PJ |

There was a British Leyland car in the 70s called a Princess. The base model had a clock face on the dashboard but no mechanism behind it. Apparently this was cheaper than using a blanking plate. Jan T |

You could have a word or Email with Hal Kramer at hkramer -at- nycap.rr -dot- com He might be able to help you with a hand. Just a thought. Rod |

Or you could try John Ostick at www.jdo1.com. Tim |

Or Mike Eck at http://www.jaguarclock.com/ who fits Smiths clocks with more reliable internal winding mechanisms. |

Thanks for your replies, I do have quite a collection of hands that I could adapt but they are all too thin and would look odd unless I changed both, today off to my friend who restores pocket watches he may have something suitable. Regards George |
