MG TD TF 1500 - Oddball Valve
| Our friend in Texas is refreshing his TD’s engine and it has the one valve that looks different. It was running fine before with it. Should he be concerned? Jud

Hm, the experts may view this differently, bit since it is the outside of the valve, I don’t see an issue. Rgds, Mike

You're probably right, Mike. Others locally have suggested that it is just a different manufacturing method. I can't see replacing just one valve but who knows. Jud

What does the stem, edge and backside look like? Regards, Tom

Unfortunately, my friend didn't send any pictures of that. Jud

It's just from a different manufacturer. You could get all carried away and order another single valve and get something different again. If the seat and stem are in good condition and it's a budget build i'd stay with it. "Ideally" though if you were doing a rebuild a matching set would be the go.

Thanks William. I'll tell my friend. I would get a new full set but I don't know what he will do. Jud

My opinion: If the backside of the face looks good and the stem is with in tolerances as are the other valves, there is no need to change anything.. never mind a full set of valves. Regards, Tom
