MG TD TF 1500 - Oil gauge pipe

Due to a fractured oil gauge tube, I am going to replace it with original assembly, Right now I have a copper tube from the upper cylinder head banjo bolt directly to the gauge. I have ordered a flex line, connector and new pipe. My question is.... Where does the connector fasten too? I know the line goes beside the battery, but I can not find any pictures of where the brass connector attaches.

I know someone out there has a picture, or can tell me where to fasten the line.

Thanks in advance.

Here's a picture showing, in the upper left corner, the flex line, pipe, and brass connector. It's caked in grime in the picture, but the brass connector is bolted to the firewall just in front of the battery box, on a TD at least. Hope this helps.

The connector attaches to a bracket which is attached to the big bolt that holds the diagonal chassis-firewall brace (on the engine side of this bolt). You will not have a bolt hole on the TF firewall for this. the flex line spirals up between the dip stick and the distributor.

If your car is an early TD it bolts to the side of the battery box.

The car is an early TD. Does it bolt to the lowest most hole on the left side of the battery box? Thanks for the picture... that is the first picture I have seen of this connection.

Sorry, somehow got it into my head this was a TF question.

On my TD the Oil pressure hose is attached to the Bottom Banjo Bolt not the Top? You may get a lower pressure reading I believe if you take it from the top.

I believe it is the lowest bolt hole on the battery box on early TD. I did alot of research on this since my early TD came in boxes and hardly a nut or bolt was assembled.
I have some pictures from other early TD's showing the location at home, will try to find a couple and post them tonight.
Another thing different on the early TD's, the flexible oil pressue gauge connects at the top of the engine and not the bottom. I know most say bottom but a diagram in the MG TD WSM clearly shows the fitting and flex line at top on the head.

Yes I knew that the early TD had the oil gauge fitting on the head banjo. I am going to keep it there til the end of the driving season as it is easier to work on it at the upper location. Currently I am running 40 psi hot at the head so oil pressure is not a problem.

Thanks for all the help. I will post a couple of pics before and after after I get the parts.

Richard,

For the early TD that may be right.

In the WS Manual I have the image of the Oil System shows the newer Oil filter. The take off for the Oil Pressure Gauge is at the point where the oil comes out of the pump on the main gallery. Taking it from the top would possibly give a lower reading. The restriction in the upper banjo bolt is to reduce the flow to the rockers and prevent flooding up there.
Least ways that's as I understand it.
Maybe in the early TD things are different - hardware wise.
It may not matter which end you take it from.
The lower bolt puts it out the way though - I think.

Rod, The early TD's are a little different. I think they found improvements in the filter system, and most likely people freaked with the indication of lower oil pressure. In my case I actually have to drill out the restriction in the upper banjo. I like lots of oil flow to lube the valve train and tappets.
The entire XPAG engine is quite a remarkable little "tractor engine". When I go out on the club runs, people are amazed at how "fast" the car goes.

Thanks again all for the help!

cr, Why switch pick up locations...you are just looking for changes in oil pressure as you run the engine..the actual number at this point is almost meaningless. Regards, tomu

Here are a couple examples I have found over the last 5 or so years.

another one.

Last one, these last two were sent to me by a kind gentlemen that was selling his TD and I ask him to send me a close-up.

Here is a picture of the oil line installation on my early 1950 TD. I think I have it right. Oil gauge works well now since there is no longer a blockage in the oil pipe. (replaced with new)
