MG TD TF 1500 - Oil guage leather gasket substitute

Has anyone substituted an o ring for the leather gasket on the oil pipe to oil pressure gauge. If so, any special o ring or other substitute?

Ask for a nitril 'O' ring of the proper size. Cheers - Dave

I doubt that you could find an 'O'ring with the desired configuration. It's a flat, soft gasket, seldom found in place. Think I'd make my own before going to a circular cross-section ring. Bud

I use a O ring also no problem on both TD's

They are easy to make from thin leather (shoe liner, etc) using a cork borer.

Tim, I have a assortment box and by looking at it

I think I took the ID/ 3/16 od/ 5/16 or the Id 1/4 with the O/d 3/8

Such a box you'll find on fleebay for about US 15,--
so handy to have around

Thanks Gerard. I picked up a box of nitrile o rings at harbor freight. Those sizes were included.

George, I just hate to pay the shipping on a $0.25 part. For a little more I have a whole assortment of nitrle o rings.

Lonnine, the leather gasket (or o ring) goes between the end on the oil line and the oil pressure gauge.

Ran the motor today for the first time. Didn't start it just compression check and looked for oil leak at pressure gauge. The nitrel o ring is working fine, no leaks. I'll see how it does at operating pressure when the engine is running.
