MG TD TF 1500 - OIl Pressure Gage Identity

I know that there is someone in this BBS universe that can help me. I have an oil pressure gage that I think came off of a '49 YT that I once had. It is a Jaeger model with the number 45854 printed on the dial. The markings show it going from 0 to 160 PSI. Is it in fact from a YT and was it used on other models as well? I want to sell it as I'm certain that somebody can use it rather than just sitting in my shop with other misc parts that I don't think I'll ever use. Thanks, Mark

Butch will know.

Do you have a picture? It may be the same as the guages fitted to early TD's that didn't have the combined temp/oilpressure guage?

That is the same guage that I have in my '49 TC.

I also have the same oil pressure gauge which I removed from TC 2051 which was manufactured on Dec. 31, 1946. I replaced it with a combo oil pressure/water temp gauge.

Well, I guess that it was probably a generic gage used on a number of MG's as well as other makes. It now appears to have been on my YT and also TC's. This is a good starting point. Thanks, Mark

Hi Mark,

Yes, I agree with Peter and Gary. 45854 Jaeger gauge is standard TC. They were also standard in YTs (and I assume early TDs?). That is the number on my own TC gauge and, although I have never noted the 45854 number before, the YT gauges look identical. My brother and I each had YTs for many years and I have been involved with TCs for 52 years!

It is strange that they read up to 160 psi! I would be very worried if I ever saw even 80psi .... even at high revs with a cold motor! Very logical to fit a combined oil/water gauge.

The oil pressure gauge that was in TD10855 when I got it is a Jaeger 0-100 psi. Markings on the face say Jaeger, Made in England, at the top edge of the dial is X20909/56 OG93. Bud

My TD8986 came to me 38 years ago with a separate Jaeger 0-160 PSI oil pressure gauge. I believe it was sold new on Long Island so I wonder if the distributor/dealer there might have fitted these and moved the horn button to the left of the speedo to make room since the car also has a separate temperature gauge and ammeter. The oil gauge says X45854 at the bottom and OG/54 just under the Jaeger name.

Hi Guys,
I have included an image of the gauge on my TC. Pardon the photo taken by torchlight! John's image prompted me to look at mine. It seems there is always something to learn! The gauges have the same number and initially look the same but the "Made in England", 45854 number and LBS.PER.SQ.INCH bits are in different places.
I swapped this gauge from another TC in about 1969 because it was in great condition. I assume all TCs were the same and there was a minor change somewhere in early TDs and YTs ..... From now on I will always be curiously looking at the minor lettering differences when I see a 45854 gauge!
